Wayne Rooney is up against his former team, Everton at Old Trafford, this Saturday, he will once again face his former fans with much chants direct to him, although he will surely do all the talking on the field. The Reds half of Merseyside will take on Birmingham at Anfield while Arsenal will travel to the Reebok Stadium to face Bolton.
Manchester United vs. Everton
One slip and the Premiership title can go elsewhere but that’s not the case with Manchester United, time after time the Red half of Manchester find themselves dropping points, their nearest rivals does the same which more or less put Manchester United once again in a firm and comfortable position to win their 19th title. The midweek saw a lack lustrous United team having to pay the price for their missed chances against Newcastle and coming away from St. James Park with only a point in a 0-0 draw. That performance followed with some worries over rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea would bridge the gap, for the Blues, they are nine points behind while Arsenal are within 6 point, having to consider that Manchester United have played a game more than rivals. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson knows that Manchester United is in the driving seat and the premiership is for them to lose, regardless what happens to their rivals. The devils will find themselves once again without Paul Scholes while Berbatov and Ferdinand are doubtful but crowd favorite Wayne Rooney will return with Carrick to support him.
One of the inform teams in the Premiership and Manager Tony Moyes is gunning for an European spot but maybe a place above their rivals would already be an achievement for them. Everton came off last weekend victorious once again with Leighton Baines getting on the scoring sheets for his penalty efforts. The Toffees are enjoy some stylish football of the late, this could be the reason of L. Osman and J. Beckford combining well in the middle of the park. It’s not just these two players that has been giving Moyes a different dimension of play but also players like
Manchester United will continue their search for their 19th Premiership on Saturday with an early afternoon kickoff at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were left frustrated twice last week with the defeat to City rivals and drawing against Newcastle, only means a chance to redeem themselves infront of their own home ground. Everton will bring much high confidence and spirits to Old Trafford, however a tough battle for the three points is expected, also mentioning that Rooney will meet his former team with much heated ill feeling still in the air.
Liverpool vs. Birmingham
Time will tell how good this team will get but for now, Liverpool is still in a transition with a few academy players getting the nod from caretaker Kenny Daglish. Rumours are flying around regarding the Scots future at Liverpool, the owner might be preparing a long term contract for Daglish to sign and bring Liverpool back to the glory days of winning silverware. Last weekend saw Daglish managing a 1-1 draw at the Emirates where Dirk Kuyt grab the last action penalty in the dying minutes of the game. It was that attitude that once famous won them the Champions League and now salvaging a point in the push for an European spot. Apart from that youngsters like Flannagan, Spearing and Robinson were giving a chance to prove their service is something to endavour in the future while the old guard of Kuyt, Skrtel and Carragher still remain intact. Both strikers, Suarez and Carroll showed glimpse of their ability but it was a defensive Liverpool team we saw against Arsenal and that about to change when Liverpool take on Birmingham at Anfield on Saturday. Aurelio is rule out while Carragher and Carroll are doubtful.
Not safe yet, that is surely what Manager Alex McLeish is saying to his squad and getting points must be the only thing on his mind. Birmingham are a strong side when it comes to playing at St. Andrew but their season has been dogged by their away form. This was expressed once again in the midweek where they put in a courage effort but failed to come away from Stamford Bridge with any points. Their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea showed that they are ready to fight but maybe not enough against a stronger and established teams when it comes traveling away from home.
Birmingham probably needs only three points to secure their future in the premiership and with five games left, there is every chance for them to stay up but it will tough to get three points at Anfield. Liverpool are a different beast ever since Daglish took over. The team looks to be more united whoever plays get the spot in the starting eleven and with that in mind, Daglish will surely build on the success they have in the previous games.
Bolton vs. Arsenal
Reebok Stadium will be hoping that their fallen heroes of the FA Cup semifinal have learnt their lesson and more on from the 5-0 defeat to Stoke City last weekend. It was a nightmare that Bolton endure and with much embarrassment still to suffer this weekend when Arsenal visits, the Bolton squad will need to turn some heads if they don’t want to repeat the same score line. Captain Kevin Davis and Owen Coyle will have to put their heads together and give Reebok stadium something to cheer for this weekend and with long balls and physical muscle on their side, they could grind out a result. All could be forgot if Bolton is to gain a point. Bolton look set to recall Matt Taylor, Daniel Sturridge and Mark Davies.
Arsenal can’t afford to lose anymore points and once again they showed it time after time that they are prone to lack of character, maturity and even concentration. Against Liverpool, Eboue aimlessly fouled Lucas in the penalty box and gave away the three points, so you might think they have learnt, well against their north London rival, Spurs in the midweek, they went 3-1 up but managed to go away from white hart lane with only a point again. It’s not the referee, it’s not the opposition, Arsenal is their own nightmare and Arsene Wenger might just be the one who needs to look hard at the squad he has and find those players who are causing the liability. Never the less, the title is still on offer and if Arsenal can manage to win all their upcoming games including the Sunday game against Bolton, then rest assured they have done what they can to make things from worse to bad. Diaby and Roscky are doubtful.
Bolton are a strong side at home, they are compact and solid at the back so giving more space when attacking under Greg Megson. However the Gunners are known to be even better when it comes to space and counter attacking, their away from suggest always that a goal or two is always in this north London team. NO shortage of goals from Arsenal but will they be able to hold the lead and take all much needed three points back to London?
