The Champions will travel to Stadio Friuli to face Udinese where the host needs one point to secure that fourth place in the Serie A. If they fail to secure that spot then Lazio will be giving a chance as they travel to Lecce on Sunday.
Lecce vs. Lazio
Four games will have a kickoff at 19:45 BST on Sunday and the game between Lecce and Lazio is one of them. Lazio will travel to the Stadio Via Del Mare in search for the three points in which that could give them the spot to qualify for next season’s champion league and help from AC Milan to defeat Udinese to capture the fourth place in the Serie A.
The home side is pretty much settled for next season in the Serie A, they will finish the season in the bottom half of the table where they escaped relegation last week by defeating relegated Bari 2-0 away. Coach Gigi De Canio secured yet another season in the Serie A and surely that is an achievement on itself. Lecce will be without Tomovic who is suspended, while Gustavo, Ferrario, Ofere, Olivera and Bertolacci are injuried.
Lazio are hoping for a good finish to the season with a place in the champion league next season as the prize, besides finishing fourth. The three defeats saw Lazio bounced back last weekend when they tore Genoa apart with a 4-2 home win. They are within a chance to take fourth and with Hernanes being on form in front of goal, anything can happen against Lecce. Lazio will be without Diakite, Radu and Meghni so if things don’t work out, they have always the Europa League to contend with next season, either way, Lazio will be going into Europe but surely Champions League will help the club would sound a bit better.
Udinese vs. Milan
Played at the same time as the Lecce and Lazio game, Udinese will host the champions, AC Milan, in a game where a draw will secure the Friulani a fourth place in Serie A. That also means Udinese will be able to play in the prestigious Champion League tournament for the first time in their history.
The home side must take advantage of the celebrating visitors who might not have the urgency to win this game. Even with a defeat, Udinese can still qualify for the champion league if Lazio fails to gain that three points to above them in the Serie A. If it is a stalemate at 66 points then Udinese will take fourth on goal difference and that is all thanks to captain Antonio Di Natale with his scoring record, maybe even going one better than last season by matching 29 or over. Nino Maravilla, Pablo Armero and Kwadwo will start, but Alexis Sanchez is doubtful and Basta and Coda are injured.
Milan might go to Stadio Friuli with less urgency and more spectacular scene of celebration, well the atmosphere will be a generous one rather than a hostile one. The away team settled the Scudetto score a fortnight ago so most of the surroundings has been concentrated on the post season contract negotiations and transfer deals. Nesta, Van Bommel, Inzaghi, Thiago Silva and Roma have all extended their deals with Milan, taking another year with the champion and maybe even play with former team mate Kaka in the new season. As one rumour to join the squad, it might be Andrea Prilo’s final game for the Rossoneri as his contract expired at the end of June after playing for Milan for 10 years. He could well partner up with Kevin-Prince Boateng in the middle to support the trio Robinho, Pato and Ibrahimovic at the front.
