Novara – Lacking experience and quality

By David, BettingExpert.com | Published

For the small club from the north of Italy the Serie A is a dream come true. Nobody expects them to survive this league but manager Tesser has already taken the Serie B by surprise last year with his passing game. Can he manage the miracle of survival in a higher category?

Manager: Tesser

Tactics: 4-3-1-2

Players In: Morimoto, Mazzarini, Paci, Granoche, Dellafiore, Meggiorini, Radovanovic, Coser, Santiago Garcia, Jeda

Players Out:

Current Probable Formation: Ujkani, Dellafiore, Paci, Lisuzzo, Gemiti, Porcari, Marianini, Rigoni, Pinardi, Granoche, Morimoto

Let me be frank about this. All over the pitch Novara lack quality. The arrivals of Morimoto, Jeda, Mazzarini and Meggiorini have surely bolstered their attacking lineup but options, even upfront, are not enticing enough to inspire realistic hopes of avoiding the drop.

Nonetheless, even though we know quality plays an important part, it is the level of togetherness, team spirit and team setup that all come together to spur a squad towards achieving great things. Let’s not forget about Del Neri’s Chievo. Back in 2001 when they sped up the hierarchy scale of Italian football and reached the top division pundits were playing down their chances as I am doing now for newly promoted Novara. They finished fifth that season in Serie A because they ranked highly on all other aspects that make a team what it is despite not comparing to many of the other squads on levels of quality.

This Novara team is perhaps less well equipped in comparison to what Chievo could count on. Many players for the Lanceri were more of an unknown rather than poor in quality. It is not the same for Tesser who does essentially have to put up with one of the least qualitative sides.

The improvements in attack have been remarkable though. Jeda and Morimoto may be considered rejects, just like Meggiorini but in my opinion they have often been misunderstood and badly employed on the pitch. Nonetheless, one should consider that it is not big teams who opted to let them go but the likes of Catania, Cagliari and Bologna.

Mazzarini, the main contender for the role of playmaker in the team, comes from Modena and is quite a promising young talent. Granoche has been signed on from Chievo and although he can often net goals he is not to be considered a starter. Porcari, Marianini and Rigoni will most often make up the three-man midfield, with Radovanovic and Giorgi giving the shift.

Tall keeper Ujkani has proven himself good and he will probably hone his skills against many teams which will be playing Novara this season given the amount of action he is expected to be involved in.

Many of the defenders were in the club’s books last year in Serie B. Two new faces are Paci and Dellafiore and the story about them is the same as that of many other new signings for Novara. They were fringe players at Parma and Cesena respectively and will be in most other clubs in Serie A.

Predicted finishing position: 19th

There is enthusiasm and the team is ready to put its soul into acquiring that fighting chance to stay up. However, resources are scarce at Novara and the players signed on will not be enough to prevent the slide back into Serie B.
