Parma – One-man army
By David, BettingExpert.com | Published

It is no Schwarzenegger-like army we’re talking about but he still is out on a rampage to prove his worth after being discarded by Juventus for having too small a build to make any sort of long term impact on the game. Giovinco is red-eyed, Terminator-style, all out for revenge and his skills will serve him well and also help Parma reach their goals with relative ease.
Manager: Colomba
Tactics: 4-4-2
Players In: Floccari, Pereyra, Santacroce, Brandao, Sansone, Graziani
Players Out: Dzemaili, Marco Rossi, Dellafiore, Paci, Angelo, Mendy, Pasi
Current Probable Formation: Mirante, Zaccardo, Paletta, Lucarelli, Gobbi, Biabiany, Morrone, Galloppa, Modesto, Giovinco, Floccari
When Franco Colomba took over from Marino last season the team was in shambles and their situation in the league was rapidly degenerating. The circumstances looked desperate and few at the club could point their fingers at what actually was the problem of this well planned squad.
When finally Marino was sent packing and the team secured safety with a series of victories that included a six-game unbeaten streak towards the end of last season it suddenly became clear even to the dumbest director residing in the Gialloblu camp that the previous manager was the culprit of disaster.
It was a real drag having to watch Marino’s Parma play so I can imagine perfectly well the level of suffering a team fan would have to endure. All that was redeemed and Colomba’s fresh ideas sparked the side back to life immediately. The results acquired far exceeded what was expected from the appointment of the new manager so it was fairly easy for the club to extend their collaboration with Colomba to this season.
The approach of this manager is simple. No complications. He just looks for pragmatism. It does not mean Parma will be back at that frustrating kind of football we all had to put up with in Marino’s days. However, do not expect any experimental formations with forwards coming and going. There will be nothing fancy with Colomba’s classical 4-4-2.
Effective will be the key word and the more remarkable of the new signings this summer, Floccari, will be key in making the cogs turn. He is a true finisher who can also make his presence felt in the box, shielding the ball while he waits for support from his attacking team mates.
Biabiany should push down the right and, despite the rough edges to this young player’s profile, he should guarantee some level of danger. He has very good speed and is somewhat comparable to Tottenham’s Lennon or QPR’s Wright-Phillips. Not well refined but useful on his day. Modesto will be in charge of the left flank.
Galloppa and Jadid will be two other players who should help out in bringing the ball forward. They play in the same position though and it will therefore be either one or the other as they line up alongside defensive midfielder Morrone.
The brains of the team is surely Giovinco though. Small frame and short in stature he is one to easily dismiss if you have not seen him play before. However, he possess great technique. He can change pace quickly and besides having excellent vision for finding out his companions on the pitch he scores with ease as well.
Colomba’s backline has been well nurtured into avoiding leaving those deadly gaps which opponents will immediately take advantage of. At least against the more modest teams. Top clubs are still a phenomenon they need to get to grips with, often proving immature enough against them. The team lacks the confidence necessary to try and have their say against the top guns and this character flaw of theirs will also explain a more consistent home form which contrasts markedly with performances on their travels.
Predicted finishing position: 13th
Quality upfront will mainly be guaranteed by Giovinco. He will be supplying most of the assists and can wreak havoc in the opponents’ box with his strong shot and precision. Without him Colomba’s team is quite predictable yet solid. Few teams will manage to break them down. Giovinco does create dependence and as long as he is available they should meet no uphill struggles on their way to securing the Serie A status for next season.
