Red Bull Vettel is leading the pack with a big gap in the championship race, both Ferrari and McLarens will have to do a lot more at Spa if they want to challenge Red Bull as there is only 8 races left.

Formula One - Spa 2011

A good long break after a month, many of the teams are itching to go and Spa will host the 12th F1 race of the season. The famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit will see McLarens, Red Bull and Ferrari re-ignite their fight at the top half of the F1 tables. Enough said, let’s get the cars doing the talking as Belgium will see a few fast cars on the run between 26th to the 28th August.

The race circuit is 7.004km with the race distance at 308.052km. All drivers’ will need to complete 44 laps to be crowned as champion of the circuit and Kimi Raikkonen hold the record of the lap time of 1:45.108 still stands since 2009. Former F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton will be at Spa to defending his winning role back in 2010.

Drive, Drive & Drive

The McLarens have used the break to update their set-up by improving their aerodynamics. The hope is to see the McLarens a bit more competitive and able to push a bit more in the upcoming races. Both Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button are looking to get that little extra push, the DRS might or might not help this weekend at Spa for the McLarens.

With eight races to go, the F1 championship title is up to Sebastian Vettel to lose. The runaway successes of one car differ from another car, his teammates Mark Webber. The Australian has several issues during practice session with most concerns focusing on the KERS unit. There is 85 points difference between the two and surely a comfortable lead as we have eight races to go.

Ferrari Fernando Alonso always come good in the second half of the season but this time around, he has to win every races he put his foot on the pedal. With 89 points behind Vettel, Alonso will have to fight for his life but even the driver itself does not think it will be 2011 where they are able to compete, 2012 might be a better chance. However, Ferrari will surely not go into any of the remaining circuits without the urge wanting to win the race.

Verdict

There no place for any mistakes and that goes for both McLarens and Ferrari, also Red Bull Mark Webber too if they want to make things more interesting for the remaining races. Ferrari looks a bit humble with the situation and you can’t blame them for that, so if you talk about winning then they will be there at the end, but not sure about podium. Both McLaren and Red Bull are looking strong, one trying to get the ahead of each other. The tyres will play a big part of the race outcome and of course, depending of the updates to the car, who will go on top, then my bet is on McLarens Lewis Hamilton to repeat the same winning feel.
