It was wet, very wet last year at the Shanghai, China in last year's F1 race but that was then, this weekend could see sunshine and lots of overtaking and the man to beat is Vettel, although Lewish Hamilton and Fernando Alonso will surely go head to head again without damaging their car.
Formula One Chinese Grand Prix 2011
Three races in the F1 season and by no means are many fans out there saying this will be predictable. We stay in Asia and head over to Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix. The Chinese track will be running from the 17th to the 19th April 2011. This track was only introduced only four years ago so even for past champion like Michael Schumacher and Sebiastien Vettel will still need to play a bit of play station to get the knowhow of this track.
The race circuit is 5.451km with the race distance at 305.066km. All drivers’ needs to do 56 laps to be crowned champion and Michael Schumacher lap record of 1:32.238 still stands since 2004. Jensen Button in the McLarens car won this race back in 2010.
Dream start
Sebiastien Vettel is in a league of his own or maybe that is the car that is making the driver a winner, either way, both car and the driver is leading in both the Constructer and Driver’s championship. The invincible Red Bull car might be working for Vettel but it doesn’t seem though it is working into teammate Mark Webber’s favour as he finished fourth in Malaysia. Same car but it is lacking when it comes to comparing between Vettel and Webber. Interesting to see how that battle will turn out this season, by the way it is 1-0 to Vettel.
Second place went to McLaren but this time, it’s not Lewis Hamilton but teammate Jensen Button occupying that space. Although having said that, Button was lacking behind the Red Bull Vettel by a mile so still some work to do with the McLaren but Jensen is definitely back on track with some good track decision. Lewis Hamilton was priced out after going head to head with Ferrari Fernando Alonso, both drivers are still up for some stunt driving and ill feelings are always in the air between them. Both were penalized for the collision but of course Hamilton came out worse dropping from seventh to eighth while Alonso finished sixth.
Talking about Ferrari, it is beyond belief that they have fallen back in the pecking order after knowing that they are supposedly to be close to the Red Bull cars in terms of speed and pace. Reality have struck hard as the Ferrari are no where near the leaders and the drawing boards need to come out quickly or they might be facing yet another empty handed season. Interestingly Felipe Massa finished higher than Alonso, fair and square.
Young Guns
At Malaysia, one time wonder Vitaly Petrov crashed out so looks like he won’t be getting back into the podium any soon but that consistency is with British Paul Di Resta in the Force India. He has really shown progress and only in his second F1 car, imagine what he can do if he had a better car? He will go mid-tables in Shanghai and also expect his team mate Adrian Sutil to come somewhere around him. A bit of a thrill is to see Kamui Kobayashi, his overtaking is still one of his highs seen in F1, making fast movements but then again there are moments of time that he is a bit edgy with his breaks.
Finishing First
Once again, Vettel will be in full dominate position and there is no two ways about it. He will be maximizing his good start, two poles and two wins in three at Shanghai. While the others are trying to improve their cars, Vettel will have to also get his mechanic going to keep up at the top. Team mate Webber will have to find a way to copy some of the secret is the Vettel’s garage but second place McLarens are getting closer and closer, but will it be close enough in China?
