Formula One Curtain Opener Down Under

F1: Formula One Curtain Opener Down Under
The F1 season begins yet again at Down Under and it will be certainly where we left off as both Red Bull and Ferrari cars are wheeling to go head to head to claim the 2011 championship. Both cars are predicted to go toe to toe from the start to the bitter end. This Article is sponsored by Gamebookers, so take advantage of the sign up as the F1 season gets under at Gamebookers.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines, welcome back to the F1 season and with Bettingexpert 2011 will surely be exciting than the last. Before we even start the season, the F1 2011 season has started with the withdrawal of the Bahrain race due to turmoil in the country so the Australian Grand Prix remains the first circuit in the season held later than usual from 25th – 27th March. This season will see no new teams coming in but a few drivers have changed teams but the front runners still remain the same.

The race circuit is 5.303km with the race distance at 307.578km. All drivers’ needs to do 49 lap to be crowned champion and Michael Schumacher lap record of 1:24.125 still stands since 2004. The 2009 F1 champion Jensen Button won this race in 2010 and will be hopeful to win this circuit yet again in the Brawn-Mercedes car.

Technical changes and restrictions

Out goes the use of double diffusers, F-Ducts, adjustable front wings, shortened shark fins, sprung plank fixings while restrictions are given to front chassis height, rear crash structure and fixed weight distribution. In comes the KERS, trick exhausts, Pirelli to supply new tyres on the circuit and all of this would mean better way to overtake each other. All these changes, would it still be exciting, I’ll bet you anything on that it won’t as the teams will always find different ways to circumvent these rule changes.

Topping Australia

The pre-season testing at Circuit de Catalunya has revealed a few things before the Australian Grand Prix and if anything is to go by the testing results then both Red Bull and Ferrari drivers are in a good shape. Reigning champion, Sebastian Vettel will be looking to defend his championship in style as his car is more reliable than ever. The RB7 is fast in the qualifying and set pace in the race trim, Vettel is the number one man in the Red Bull team, his teammate Mark Webber will have to show some fighting spirit in order to become a challenger.

It isn’t just the Red Bull cars that has set some pace, the Ferraris are not far behind with Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa in the driving seats. Alonso came close last season and surely he will be up there once again, consistency is something that Alonso has on his side and something Massa will be hoping to get this season.

Contenders

The two Brits in the McLaren cars are not looking favourable already before the Australian Grand Prix gets underway. The MP4-26 care was not introduced in the pre-season and that might be because that is still struggling to fix issues cropping left, right and centre. Both Jensen Button and Lewis Hamilton will be hoping that the cars will be fixed as much work is to be done. Apart from the three main contenders, there is still a question mark over the Mercedes GP with Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg to show whether they can break into the mole.

Middle Fighters

Now that the top remains the same, the middle is another area that many are new drivers and the same teams will battle for this F1 season. The teams Williams, Force India, Sauber, Toro Rosso and hopefully Lotus with Mercedes engines will be fighting out the scraps.

BettingExpert and the rest of the world will be seeing promising rookies like Scot Paul di Resta, Mexican Sergio Perez, Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado and Belgian Jerome D’Ambrosio to grace the F1 tracks this season. Hopefully the old and the new will be able to join up and bring some great races to everybody at home and at the circuit.

Prediction

It looks like a Red Bull and Ferrari battle to the end this year but as we just concentrate on the race itself, then it should be Jensen Button who is favorite to take this as he have won at this circuit twice in a roll. Although with the McLaren cars falling for pace, we’ll have to look at either Vettel, Webber and Alonso to take the front of the grid. Just by looking at the pre-season testing then Vettel has the advantage with Webber in his side to dominate the top spots. The qualifying will be the key and with Vettel being the quickest, he should be exercised with an each way to win this season and Australian Grand Prix.
