This week’s European Tour setting will be held for the first time in a stunning Moray Firth coastline for The Barclay’s Scottish Open. The spotlight will be at the Castle Stuart Golf Link as it will debut to host the Scottish Open this year as the tournament moved from Loch Lomond.  Only opened two years ago, it has already received praises from the golfing world. Having said that, it has only been chosen early this year to be the host venue of this prestigious tournament, that the team behind it did not have more than normal to prepare for it, but this will not be an excuse not to deliver a world class event. With just one week before the third Major of the season, the golf link will be the place for some of the leading players in the world to tune-up their play for The Open Championship. With Louis Oosthuizen becoming the first winner of The Open who had played at the Scottish Open last year, Castle Stuart Golf Link will be the perfect practice ground for the third Major that is about to take place in Sandwich. Hence, it will have some of the big guns line-up for this week’s 29th Scottish Open.

Although the recent US Open champion Rory McIlroy and the injured Tiger Woods Five will not be in Inverness, some of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking will tee off in Scotland. The world number one spot is on the line this week for Luke Donald (1) and Lee Westwood (2). Together with Phil Mickelson (6) Matt Kuchar (8)and Graeme McDowell (9), they will all be vying to take the title from the defending champion Edoardo Molinari and take a slice of Scottish Open’s £3,000,000 prize pot money.

The Scottish Open Defending Champion

Edoardo Molinari has won his first big win last year in an impressive fashion at Loch Lomond. The 30-year-old carded 3-over par 74 at the final round, winning the title in a total of 12-under par 272 that earned him to secure a wild card for the Ryder Cup 2010 in which his side won in Wales. However, the Italian’s recent outings shows an unimpressive outlook that his odds of successfully defending his title is not on his side. His best result out of his five games if finishing T39. At last weeks Alstom Open de France, the world No.34 finished T43. Having said this, Edoardo Molinari will not give up his Scottish Open title without a fight as he retains his crown against some of the best players in the world.

The English Battle On The Top

Believing that an extra week of practice to improve his British Open result will be very helpful, Luke Donald has adjusted his schedule and decided to play in Loch Lomond. Although he has taken the number one spot in May when he won his second title at the PGA Championship from Lee Westwood, the 33-year-old is more determine to make an impression this week. His number one seat is on line. Luke has rested after taking part at US Open in which he tied 45th  but before this, he has posted a string of impressive performances. On the other hand, like his compatriot, Lee Westwood has also taken a break. However, in his last tournament at Congressional, he had a better result, finishing T3. Westwood has won this tournament in 1998 and it will not only be the perfect place for preparation for 140th Open Championship but it will also be the perfect place for him to take revenge on his fellow Englishman who replaced him at the top of golf’s totem pole.
