The Barclays Singapore Open Golf Tournament is about to take place and although some of the big players inside the top ten are either resting or taking part in the Australian Open, the event in Santosa Golf Course is by no means lacking with some of the big guns in the sports nor lacking in cash prize either. The prize pot for this tournament is a staggering $6M which is the richest prize cash in Asia. Along with Anthony Kim, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson is the highest top ranked golfer to tee off in The Tanjong & The Serapong this week. On the other hand, the defending champion Adam Scott opt out to join Tiger Woods in the greens of the Australian Open at the Lakes in Sydney.
The Defending Champion Adam Scott
Last year's winner Adam Scott will not be defending his Barclays Singapore Open 2010 title. Not because he is resting for the President Cup in Australia but it is because he is already in native country playing for this week's Australian Open. He will be teeing off with Tiger Woods, in Sydney this week. Winning in 2005 and 2006, the 31-year-old player closed his final round with 3-under par 68 with aggregate 17-under par 267 that around this time last year, he won Singapore Open title and lifted up the trophy for the third time in his career with his 3-shot lead from second placer, Anders Hansen. Despite this record, the world No8 has only won one title this season at the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational. Last week at the WGC – HSBC in Shanghai, the Aussie finished T11. With this positive result and without the top five in the world to contest with, together with the support of the home fans, Adam Scott is the favorite to win the Australian Open 2011 at odds 8/1 despite not defending his title at in Singapore.
Finding Their Way Inside Top Ten
Fresh from more than month long rest, Phil Mickelson is the highest ranking player in the playing field at this week's Asian swing. His last game was at the at the PGA FedEx Playoff where he was able to hang on all the way to the Final Playoff in Atlanta Georgia, finishing just inside the top ten in the overall standing of the Series. Making his fifth visit to the Lion City, Lefty is fully rested to resume and take part in some of the last tournaments that is left in this season. Starting in Singapore, Mickelson will be hoping to find his way inside the top ten of the OWGR. Fully rested and freshen up, this might help to take away his inconsistency. Despite a T37 result here last year, the four-time Major Champ is still the bookies favourite to win the Singapore Open 2011 at 16/1 on William Hill.
Not winning any title so far this year, Graeme McDowell is another player who we have seen slipping outside the top 10 world ranking. Like Phil, he will be hoping that with the remaining tournament left this year, he will get back inside to the place he started in the beginning of the season were he was ranked No6. Sraight from playing at the WGC – HSBC in Sheshan Internation GC last week, he carded his 17-under par 272 total in the final rond. Falling short of four-shot behind the winner Martin Kaymer, the Northern Ireland player finished third place. On the positive side, this result has put him one step up in the ranking from 15th to 14th. Armed with this, will be hoping to continue his form to be on his way inside the top 10 very soon. The 32-year-old Graeme McDowell is at another bookmakers favourite at odds 16/1 on Ladbrokes to win the Barclays Singapore Open 2011.
