US Open 2011 Congressional

The US Open 2011 will be held in 16-19 June 2011 at the Congressional Club, Bethesda, Maryland. The cream of the crop in the golfing world will be teeing off to win the second Major title of the year and to take a slice of the $7.5M prize pot. The Congressional Club has made sure that ahead of the Major competition, the course is made for the new generation to make it rigorous with it 7574 yards Par 71, making it the second-longest in the championship’s history. The Blue Course at Congressional Country Club is ready to welcome the players play a 21st century game according to the organizer. As ever, all eyes will be in Maryland.

Last year, the battle in the last round of the US Open boiled down on who becomes the answer to the 40-year-old question on who about when a European would be US Open champion again since England’s Tony Jacklin won at Hazeltine in 1970. With the biggest stars like Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ernie Els teed and amongst others at Pebble Beach Golf Links, who would have thought that a world No. 37 Graeme McDowell and No. 139 Gregory Havret who are both Europeans would battle out last year's Major. But then, the Europeans have continued to break barriers, not to mention winning the Ryder Cup 2010 at Celtic Manors.

With Tiger Woods nursing a knee and achilles tendon injury, he will be out in the picture frame at the 2011 USOpen but nonetheless, Congressional will still be a star-studded affair. All top 10 in the world ranking will be present in Maryland. Luke Donald (1), Lee Westwood (2) and Phil Mickelson (5) are the top favourites by the bookmakers to win the Bethesda.

Graeme McDowell - Defending Champion

Defending champion from Northern Ireland, McDowell joined the elite of Major winner by not only becoming Europe’s first US Open champ in 40 years when he won in California but also scored the highest score by a US Open champion since Andy North’s 74 at Oakland Hills in 1985 with his 3-over 74 totaling 284 strokes. The 31-year-old had a 1-shot lead from runner-up Frenchman Gregory Havret when he lifte up his trophy. The European Ryder Cup 2010 player’s recent outing this week at The Celtic Manor for the Saab Wales tournament have cost him to fall three spots in the world ranking after carding 3-over par 71 finishing 30th placed. With only two weeks ahead before the US Open 2011, Graeme opted out to play neither the BMW Italia Open nor the FedEx St. Jude Classic but rather decided to rest instead to prepare for his game in Maryland. The No8 in the world has not been showing a promising result in his previous matches. With his missing cut twice and finishing outside top 25 twice out of his most 5 current games. But sandwich in between at Volvo World Match Play Championship, he finished T5. His inconsistency result makes him seen by bookmakers not to be able to defend his title and win 2011 USOpen title this year.

The Odds for Graeme McDowell to win the USOpen 2011 at PartyBets is at 51.00

Luke Donald - Current Number One

It was not a blisterrng moment for Luke Donald in the beginning of the season. He was the world No.9 and started his opening tournament in disappointment after missing the cut at the Northern Trust Open. However, after two weeks, he came back fighting and won the World Golf Championships- Accenture. Since then, the 33year-old has been consistent in his play. Finishing all his tournaments inside top 10 and recently added the BMW PGA Championship n his title two weeks ago. He has also finally overtaken his fellow Englishman Lee Westwood on the top ranking. Last weekend at the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, he finished 7th. Luke Donald will have a one week off before the US OPen at Congressional Coutry Club and the current world No.1 is one of the favourites to win and lift up the trophy.

The Odds for Luke Donald to win the USOpen 2011 at PartyBets is at 13.00

Lee Westwood (2) and Martin Kaymer (3) - Former Number One, Could Be Number One

The position on top of the world ranking could change come Sunday. Luke Donald has to fight for his place. It could be taken back by Lee Westwood and possibly Martin Kaymer if he wins his second major in Congressional.

Lee Westwood is fresh from defending his title at the St. Jude Classic in Memphis on Sunday but lost the title to Harrison Frazer. The Englishman finished T11, carding 6-under par 66, a 7 shots difference from Frazer. Although he has not won, this could be considered a positive run up as he heads to Bethesda. In his last 3 US Open match, it was in 2009 that he was in contention for the title to become the first US Open winner since 1970 but narrowly missed it when he was unable to birdie the par-five 18th  and had to settle 3rd finishing on level par. Last year, the world No.2 finished T16 in Pebble Beach Golf. Along with Luke Donald, Lee Westwood is one of the bookmakers favourite to win the US PGA Championship.

The Odds for Lee Westwood to win the USOPen 2011 at PartyBets is at 11.00

Martin Kaymer ended last year with a label under his name as European Golfer of the Year 2010 due to winning his first major title at Whistling Straits and playing a vital role in securing the Ryder Cup 2010 for the European team at Celtic Manor He then continued to go on in the year with a promising start, winning his first tournament of the season at Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Soon afterwards in February, he took the No.1 spot from Lee Westwood. However, he is now ranked No.3 partly due to his recent form. The 26-year-old player's result has been ups and downs. In his last game in Turin, finished T31. However, Martin Kaymer finished T3 at Volvo World Match Play Championship before that.

The Odds for Martin Kaymer to win the USOpen 2011 at PartyBets is at 26.00
