Dustin Johnson BMW Championship

The FedEx Cup playoffs resume its third leg after a week-off at the BMW Championship 2011 at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club. As the battle continues for the remaining 70 players, they need to bring their A game to the table if they want to get to next week's Final in Atlanta for the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. Only the top 30 will advance and have the privilege to tee in Georgia while the remaining 40 who did not make it to the cut will have to pack their clubs and bid goodbye to the $10 million jackpot prize at stake. The defending champion Dustin Johnson who won the Playoff opener in Plainfield will be joined by other top 10 players in the world, Luke Donald (No1), Steve Stricker (No4) Martin Kuchar (No8) Phil Mickelson (No9) and Adam Scott (No10).

The Opener Winner and Defending Champion

The BMW Championship defending champion Dustin Johnson has won the opening round of the playoff series three weeks ago in New Jersey with the help from an unlikely source. With the eminent arrival of hurricane Irene, the organizers were forced to shorten the game by a day in which it benefited Johnson the most. Finishing 6-under par 194 total on that Saturday night, the title was given to the 26-year-old American. This victory made him take hold of his elusive first title of the season. It also gave him a very significant advantage ahead the remaining playoffs in terms of his position on the FedEx Cup table that although he finished T42 by closing with a 4-over par 75 at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Massachusetts two weeks ago, he only dropped to No2 in the FedEx Cup points. So without any pressure, he will make it to East Lake for the Final Playoffs regardless of Sunday's result. Looking back on his performance last year, the world No5 carded the same score of 2-under par 69 with Paul Casey in the final round. However, making the crucial birdie shot in the 17th hole played a critical role in securing title. Dustin prevailed with his 9-under par total 275 to win just one shot lead from the runner up Casey. Another victory in Cog Hill this Sunday will make Johnson most likely boost his chance to win the FedEx Cup and the jackpot prize will be his. With his T42 result TPC, Dustin Johnson is not the clear favourite with the bookmakers to win the BMW Championship and he is at 16/1 to successfully defend.

The Second Leg Winner

After winning the second leg in TCP Boston two weeks ago, Webb Simpson is rest assured to be in Georgia for the last leg of the FedEx Cup Playoff Series 2011 regardless of his outcome on Sunday. The projected future star in the golf world started the season ranked 213 in the world. But with his persistance to improve his game, this has paid off. Out of his 22 tournaments since the start of the season, 17 finished inside the top 25 and 9 were inside top 10. It is not a surprise to see him taking off inside the world ranking and overtaking Tiger Woods on his way to the top. It has been a turn of events for Webb this year. He won the Deutsche Bank Championship this year where as 12 months ago, he finished MC in this tournament. As a result, he watched the BMW Championship on his TV screen. Because of his victory two weeks ago, this time around, he will be heading to this tournament leading the pack in the standing points with the knowledge that like his American compatriot Dustin Johnson, he is assured that he will be in the Final round for the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola in Georgia. As one of the hottest players to immerged this year, all eyes will be on him this week. He needs to stay focused on his game to be able to remain in the No.1 position or at least be inside the top five after Sunday’s to be get closer to the jackpot prize. Webb Simpson is 16/5 be a top 5 finisher in the BMW Championship 2011.
