The top 50 in the world will gain entry to the US Open Championship 2011 and for some players who want to be in that position will take part in the PGA Tour's St. Jude Classic or the BMW Italian Open in Europe. But for some, it will be a tune-up preparation to improve their games for the coming event in Congressional. FedEx St. Jude Classic 2011 will be take place on 09th – 12th June 2011 at TCP Southwind.
Most of the top players in the OWGR have opted to take a week rest in preparation for next week’s game at Congressional except for No.2 Lee Westwood who is defending his title. He will be joined in Memphis by some former winners of this event as well as some major champions with the likes of Padraig Harrington, Geoff Ogilvy, Y. E Yang and more, thus, making it interesting to tune –up on who will take a slice on the purse money of $5.6M where the winner share will be $1,008,000 and will gain a FedEx points of 500.
Although TPC Southwind Course does not feature any extremely long holes, it is not considered to be an easy course. On contrary, throughout the year it has been ranked third most difficult course. With its long 14 par-70, 7,244-yard, the key to success here is hitting the greens thus favouring players such as David Toms who is in second rank in GIR, as well as bogey avoidance.
Lee Westwood
The defending champion, Lee Westwood, won his second PGA Tour title after since 1998 Zurich Classic. Taking him 12 years to follow it up. Last year's St. Jude Classic, the Englishman was in the three-man play-off with the Robert Garrigus and Robert Karlsson. With Garrigus blew his three-shot lead after a one-over 71 shot, he and Karlsson continue the play-off where he won with 2-under 68 for a 72-hole 10-under 270. As the No.2 in the world defends his title, he is the favourite by the bookmakers to win here. Westy's ast tournament in the American soil was the Master where he finished 11th placed. Three out of his five games, Lee finished in top 5, in which he won the the Ballantine's Championship and the Indonesian Master. In his last game so far, at the BMW PGA Championship two weeks ago, the 38-year-old came out as the runner up. Lee Westwood is not only in form but also he is oozing in confidence as he defends his title in Memphis.
The Odds for Lee Westwood to win the St. Jude Classic 2011 at PartyBets is at 8.00
David Toms
David Toms has won this tournament back to back in 2003 and 2004. The American has recently won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial three weeks ago while previous to that, he was the runner up at The Players Championship. Last year, he finished T29 carding 6 birdies and only one bogey at the final round. He is currently 27th in the OWGR but when it comes to GIR, he is ranked no.2 in the PGA. Coming off from a three week off from the tournament, he will go to Memphis well rested. And with not much of a strong field, he will be someone to be reckoned.
The Odds for David Toms to win the St. Jude Classic at PartyBets is at 11.00
Zach Johnson
The American player is currently the world No.32 in the OWGR, has 6 top 10 finished so far this season. Zach Johnson finished T12 last year’s St. Jude Classic tournament. Producing a solid form in his recent games, finishing 4th at the Crowne Plaza Invitational last month and ranking 5th in bogey avoidance, the 35-year-old from IOWA will do well in Memphis.
The Odds for Zach Johnson to win the St. Jude Classic at PartyBets is at 15.00
