Omega Mission Hills World Cup 2011

After Australia’s Presidents Cup, it is China’s turn to host a biennial event this week. Twenty-eight countries will be represented by two of their best golf players to compete for the Omega Mission Hills World Cup in Hainan Island from 24 – 27 November 2011. It might not be as big as the Football World Cup, nonetheless, the 56th Omega WC 2011 will deliver the excitement when it welcomes some of the big guns in the golfing world to tee-off for the staggering $7.5M purse money. The Molinari brothers from Italy will be defending their titles against some of the top caliber players around, with the likes of major winners Graeme Mcdowell and Rory McIlroy of Ireland, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose from England, Thomas Bjorn and Anders Hansen of Denmark, Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland of  Germany, Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland and many more. With all the teams, the Irish duo are the seen to be the team to beat for this year’s Omega Mission Hills WC 2011.

The Defending Champion

Representing Italy once again this year, the double act brothers Edoardo and Francesco Molinari were the winners in 2009 Omega Mission Mission Edoardo Molinari and Francesco MolinariHills. Winning by one stroke over Sweden and Ireland with their 4-under par 68 in the final round, they not only made history in Shenzshen two years ago for themselves but also for their beloved country. They were the first pairing brothers to win the World Cup and had the honour to give Italy its first title. They had good run last season, withthe older brother Francesco winning the WGC – HSBC Championship 2010 while   the younger Edoardo winning the Barclays Scottish Open and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. With these titles, they secured a place in 2010 Ryder Cup and went on to help the European Team win the Ryder Cup the title against the Americans. In contrast to last year, the twosome are not having a good turn of event his year, at the start of the season, the 33-year-old Francesco was No.15 but with lack of form, he has slipped to No.39 in the world ranking. Likewise, his younger went down from No.18 to No.61. With the likes of the some of the best players in the golf representing the likes of Northern Ireland, England, USA, Denmark and USA and their recent forms, the brothers will find it hard to defend their title. Having said this, these two have a special bonding that when they play together, they are in sync with their game plan that they bring out the best of each other. They might not have the form individually but when joined together, they are a force to be reckoned. Edoardo and Francesco Molinari of Italy are 10/1 to successfully defend their 2009 Omega Mission Hills WC title.

The Favourites

Ireland is deemed to be the team to beat in this golf World Cup event. Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell who were runner-up in 2009 have botRory McIlroy and Graeme McDowellh achieved major title under their belts since they last played in China for the WC two year ago. Having the title in their name, it is not a surprise that they are the bookmakers favourite at odds to lift up the title come Sunday's final round. Plagued with missing the cut in his games this season, Graeme plummeted from being the No6 to No14. On the other hand, G-Mac is teaming up with Rory who has been in an opposite direction. McIlroy jumped from No10 to now being the world No2 in the OWGR. Rory is in a very good shape, five outof his five most recent games, he had have a  five straight finished inside the top 5 while McDowell had his third place result at the WGC – HSBC Championship in Shanghai two weeks ago. Coming close to winning the title a couple years ago, where they were beaten by the Molinari brothers, this two have proved to have a successful pairing in Celtic Manor last year. They might not be brothers but they have a close relationship and have had a great success in their individual games. They will be the formidable team to beat as they vie to become the first Irish duo to win the tournament since 1997 when Pardraig Harrington and Paul McGinly won it. Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell of Ireland are 4/1 to win Omega Mission Hills WC in China.

Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa are also one of the teams that have a long history together when it comes to teaming up. Charl Schwartzel and Louis OosthuizenLike the Irish team, this duo have major titles in their resume. With Louis having won his first major last year at the 139th Open Championship while Charl followed up this year to win his first major in Augusta's Masters Tournament. Having played in so many amateur and junior team events together, they won the Junior World Championship back in 2000 in Japan. They play and practice almost every week together that it could be said they not only have the closeness but also the familiarity of each other’s game. On top of this, they have been in good form of the late. Both players have a three straight top ten outcome in their recent tournaments. With the game result they have, tied this up with their close friendship, these can be an advantage for Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen secure the title for South Africa at odds 5/1 in winning the 56th Omega Mission Hills World Cup 2011.
