Stoneys Treasure primed for Ascot bounty

racing preview

Stoneys Treasure is a progressive chaser on the upgrade, and he can resume where he left off last season by landing the valuable Atlantic Enterprises Handicap Chase at Ascot this afternoon.

The 7-y-o rounded off a consistent first term over the larger obstacles by landing two competitive handicaps, and doesn't appear badly treated for this seasonal bow. Regular rider Robert Thornton gets on well with him, and his smooth-travelling hold up style will be ideal for the forecast decent ground this afternoon.

Dangers are aplenty for the £20,000 prize money, with perhaps recent Cheltenham scorer Swing Bill the main form challenger. He did well to overcome two "stopping" blunders when closing down the leaders there, and will not be fazed by lumping 12-4. Promising 7lb claimer Tom Bellamy excelled that day and is correctly retained for the ride.

Vincitore has won two poor Worcester novices, despite coming under firm pressure at an early stage both times, and may struggle to hold his position upped in class. While Propehete de Guye benefitted from a fast pace collapsing when cruising home hard held last time. He had seemed fully exposed before that visually impressive win, and may well be flattered.

In summary, Stoneys Treasure appears well worth a win investment at around 4-1 this morning. His stable has made a quiet start, with several needing a run, but he is reported fit and well at home, and can resume his progress first time up.
