Diego primed for winning return at Wincanton

Wincanton stages the featured Bathwick Tyres Handicap Chase this afternoon, with the consistent 7-y-o El Diego preferred.
Jamies Snowden has his small stable in excellent heart on the prevailing fast ground, and reintroduces El Diego at a very winnable level after a 163 day absence. His latest runnings at Exeter and Wincanton represent decent placed form at this level, and the way he travelled through these races strongly suggests he is ahead of his handicap rating. If primed for this he will be very hard to beat and 4-1 this morning seems a very fair price.
0rion Star appears the principal danger, with a string of consistent efforts through the Summer on the fast ground. He holds no secrets from the handicapper however and was very laboured from an early stage at Fontwell last time out. Perhaps the busy spell has finally caught up with him, although he does have a decent record at this course.
Skippers Lad is another with winning form here but he is a notoriously hard ride, usually racing in snatches and needing firm riding to stay interested from the off. Last time at Newton Abbot he never went a yard and is hard to fancy on that run.
Topweight Lavenoak Lad returns after 173 days and might find conditions too quick round here lugging 11-12, while Mr Demister has shown only poor form when placed in point-to-points.
In summary, El Diego is by far the least exposed of these six veterans and can cruise round on the bridle under up and coming pilot Harry Scelton. He is worthy of a decent win investment to land the £5500 prize.
