racing preview

Hughie Morrison's 5-y-o Nazreef is a confident choice to land Southwell's featured Bet and Watch at Bluesq.com Handicap at 3.15.

This consistent course specialist has won four times from four starts on the deep surface here (earlier in his career). He returns here on the back of a couple of good placed efforts on polytrack last month and should be tough to beat back on this surface. Rider Hayley Turner is in blistering form since returning from injury and is sure to be handy with stamina proven on this classy handicappper.

Prize money of £10500 has drawn out a competitive field with perhaps Closer to the Edge the principal danger. He was much improved in 2011, winning three times in total, with the latest coming at Wolverhampton in September, and did best of the pacesetters over 6f here last week. The step upto a mile seems sure to suit although he has yet to win at this venue and might prefer less testing terrain.

Sound Amigo reappears after 131 days away from the action and it will be interesting to see the betting moves near the off to guage the confidence behind him. He is a lightly-raced sort with a good strike rate, winning four times at 6f/7f from just seven starts. The return to this trip will suit and much depends on whether he takes to fibresand at the first attempt.

Caldercruix ran with a credit when third seven days ago (well supported), and is building a very consistent profile. However, he is 5lb "wrong" at the weights here and will surely struggle upped in class.

True to Form is a seven time winner who is a credit to his small stable, but he may now be in the handicappers grip as a result of that spree and is unproven at this course.

In summary, a gilt edged chance for Nazreef to land some a valuable winter prize under 9-7. At around 7-4 this morning he is well worth a hefty win investment at a course where he is yet to taste defeat.
