The rapidly progressing Prince of Burma is selected to land Lingfield's valuable Bet at Blue Square Handicap at 3.00 this afternoon.
Jeremy Gask is an ex-Australian trainer making huge waves here and he has done wonders with the 4-y-o in recent months. Formerly with John Gosden, he struggled when first switched to the all-weather surface, but has really found his form now since the fitting of blinkers. He was heavily supported when winning a decent handicap at Kempton and followed up over this course and distance a week later, again travelling best and readily asserting for minimal pressure. This represents a step up in class but he is confidently expected to complete the hat-trick.
Main danger for the £10,500 prize money is Richard Fahey's consistent Tarooq. He has a excellent record here and was just denied in a desperate finish to a course and distance handicap last time. He was now won or been second in six of his last seven runs and is sure to go close, however the handicapper has been inching him up in the weights as a result and he has little to spare on the figures.
Numeral is another prolific performer on the sand, and he is the first ride for Richard Hughes since returning from a spell riding in India. A 59 day absence is not a concern but the step up to a mile may well be in what is sure to be a true-run contest. He is very much a 7f specialist and appeared not to stay when tried over this trip at Epsom in September.
Titan Triumph has been gradually returning to his best in the past month, and showed his turn was near when beaten on the nod here last time. He has won at Lingfield six times and is entitled to respect getting weight from the principals.
Shifting Star snapped a long losing sequence when winning here last time but is well up in class here from a higher rating, while Lockintanks may finally be in the handicappers grip after three wins over the winter.
In summary, a typically warm A-W handicap with any number with chances. At around 4-1 this morning Prince of Burma appeals as the one open to further progression and he is worthy of a small each-way interest under the underrated Ian Mongan.
