Soul Angel is selected to follow up his Musselburgh win on seasonal debut and land the competitive Bet Mobile at Victorchandler.com Handicap Chase at Ayr.
The visored 8-y-o revels in deep ground and comes here in great heart having routed some modest rivals in that handicap. He is entitled to strip fitter for the pipeopener and gets in here with a featherweight, something which can be a huge advantage when conditions are this testing.
0utlaw Tom appeals as the main danger. He is another thorough stayer, and won a 4m marathon in deep ground at Hexham in November before disappointing last time out. Perhaps that run came too soon just 18 days on from a hard race, and he is entitled to respect dropping down to 3m1f today.
Whats Up Woody was expected to do better on seasonal debut having joined the red-hot John Wade yard, but was well beaten in the straight in the Tommy Whittle and needs to find massive improvement on this class drop today.
Perhaps Negus de Beaumont can go close. His yard has struggled to find any form this season but he hinted at better to come when given a quiet ride at Newcastle last time, (third of four but ridden with little zest), and he is now well treated on past exploits, often achieved in similarly desperate ground.
In summary, a tight handicap for the £5000 prize money that is sure to be a slog through the mud. Soul Angel has crept into this at the bottom of the weights under Tom Messenger, and is well worth a win investment at around 7-2 this morning to defeat some more exposed opposition.
