racing preview

Carlisle stages an excellent days jumping this afternoon, with the featured Betfair Graduation Chase expected to fall to the tough frontrunner Aikman.

The £20,000 prize money has drawn a high class line up with three very exciting novices in opposition. 0ur selection was a multiple point-to-point winner who progressed well over hurdles last season, and showed himself as good as ever when scoring on his seasonal debut. He jumped well for one so inexperienced over an inadequate two miles on his chase bow here, and will step forward on that now upped to 3m. He is extremely hard to pass when dictating and seems the only natural frontrunner in this classy line-up.

Favourite Sarando landed a 2m4f novice chase at Plumpton in January, and was much improved in defeat when chasing home Quito de La Roque in the Grade 2 novice at Aintree in April. He has leading claims if repeating that effort after seven months on the sidelines.

Cross Kennon finished last season with a terrific fourth in the Grade 1 World Hurdle and is a fascinating runner here if not flattered by that run. He had seemed just a useful handicapper before the festival, and might be underpriced if punters believe the form of that steady run and bunched Cheltenham renewal.

Honest John might be the outsider to trouble the main three. He was a Grade 2 bumper winner two years ago and was campaigned at the top level afterwards. However, he has been absent for 577 days since and his small yard is in the doldrums at present.

In summary, Aikman is a tough and genuine frontrunner who can dominate this contest from start to finish under regular rider Brian Hughes. At around 3-1 this morning he is worth a decent win investement against rivals with more "glamourous" form at the bigger courses.

Stephen's Monday Nap Bold Sir Brian 12.50 Carlisle.

Naps are up 3pts in November so far based on 1pt win or each way at morning prices. Yesterday's Nap won at SP of 10-11.
