David Bridgwater has enjoyed a fantastic season and his stable star The Giant Bolster can give him the biggest success so far by landing Newbury's feature.
The 6-y-o has had his share of jumping problems but is very useful when finding fluency in that department, and ran a blinder when seventh to Carruthers in the Hennessy Gold at Newbury last month. This small field will give him a chance to get into a nice rhythm and he is the value choice at the prices to upset two more illustrious rivals for the £20000 prize money.
Time for Rupert ran well when second to Weird Al on his reappearance, rallying bravely when headed, but he was very laboured when a remote last of five finishers behind the top class Kauto Star at Haydock last time. He needs to bounce back from that but could easily get a soft lead here and the long straight will play to his strengths.
Pasco returns after 305 days off and has excellent form claims after finishing second at Newbury and Kempton last term. He jumps and travels very well, however all his best runs have come when the emphasis is on speed at around 2m4f and his stamina is very doubtful upped to three miles today.
Carpincho appears well outclassed here with around two stone to find on official ratings.
In summary, a fascinating four strong field gives an excellent chance for The Giant Bolster to fulfil the potential he showed last season. Tom Scudamore will settle the gelding and attempt to outpace frontrunning Time for Rupert after the last. At around 6-1 this morning he is well worth a decent win investment to upset "form" students.
