The Hardy Boy is a standing dish at Plumpton, and he can register a seventh course and distance win in the featured Breeders Cup handicap chase at 3.30.
Although firmly in the veteran stage of a long career now, the 11-y-o returns from a six month absence on a very handy rating and gets weight from some very modest rivals. If fit and well he can lead all the way unpressed under Mattie Bachelor.
Wood Yer is expected to be sent off favourite with the yard in excellent heart. He performed with credit in handicap hurdles last season an is entitled to respect on chasing debut here. However he was never a fluent jumper of the smaller obstacles and may struggle on the firm ground unless getting into a rhythm.
The Darling Boy at least has chase experience, but does find very little when coming off the bridle. He will strip fitter for his remote third on reappearance and will enjoy the fast groud.
In summary, a low grade handicap on a quiet Monday can afford The Hardy Boy a chance to end a losing sequence stretching to January 2010. At around 3-1 this morning he is worth chancing that he is fit enough to do himself justice at a course he loves.
