Paul Nicholls has found an excellent opportunity for his reliable chaser Flaming Gorge to return in, and the 6-y-o can gain reward for his consistency in the 2.30 at Plumpton.
Daryl Jacob is in the saddle this afternoon, and is sure to use his mount's proven stamina on ground that has eased in the past few days. He was placed on his last three starts last term and will be fit and readied for this return after 244 days.
His rivals seem tightly matched for the £8500 prize, with perhaps topweight Penny Max the most interesting. The 5-y-o has only made it to the racecourse only three times so far but showed a high degree of ability in two useful novice hurdles. He is pitched into this handicap chase under 11-12 which will not be easy in the testing ground, but has scope to improve and the yard has hit form with a vengeance in the past seven days. Any cash later on would be a huge clue that he has schooled well and is ready for this seasonal bow.
Prince de Seuil was a fully exposed handicap hurdler last term and seems to have plenty of weight for this chasing debut, while Foxesbow's decent run of form came to an abrupt halt when pulled-up 18 days ago. He may be in the handicappers grip now after two early-season wins at a lower level.
In summary a modest handicap for the money, but a clear chance for Flaming Gorge to utilise his chasing experience. At around 5-2 this morning he is worth a decent sized win investment to continue the champion trainers fantastic start to the NH season.
