Gunner can continue his resurgence for Lee

Richard Lee's evergreen veteran Victory Gunner is a strong fancy to land Carlisle's feature handicap chase at 2.25 this afternoon.
The 13-y-o is a thorough stayer who has been revitalised since joining this yard, winning twice in the Spring and carrying on in the same vein when scoring at Ffos Las on his recent return. He is a fluent jumper and will relish the eased ground at this stamina sapping course.
Lockstown shapes as the principal danger in a competitive race for the £9800 prize money. He was much sharper for his reappearance run when winning over three miles at Newcastle last time, and that form has been well advertised by the second winning since. However he will have to defy a career high rating now, and may find this extra two furlongs up the hill too much.
La Pantera Rosa merits respect off a flyweight on her return after 277 days away from the course. She has a decent record fresh in the past, but may prefer slightly faster ground if her stamina is to last out in this large field of stayers.
Etxalar hails from a yard in great form but shaped with little promise when a remote eighth first time out, while the formerly classy Hennessy was very disappointing when pulled up in a hot Cheltenham handicap last time.
In summary, a great chance for the "teenage" Victory Gunner to add another win to his impressive career profile. At around 4-1 this morning he is well worth a win interest, in a race that is sure to develop into something of a slog in the testing ground.
