racing preview

French Ties was a deeply impressive winner at Uttoxeter four days ago, and is a confident choice to land the featured handicap chase at Southwell this afternoon.

The 9-y-o was heavily supported to return to form in what appeared a wide open contest that day, and was always cruising held up in rear under a very confident ride from Alan O'Keeffe. He drew clear in the straight there without coming under any pressure, and will surely be hard to beat under the 7lb penalty. This sharp, speed CD should be ideal and he can assert turning for home on the forecast fast ground.

Main danger comes from the reliable stayer Hever Road. He saw out this three mile trip very gamely when winning last time out, and seems sure to set a fair gallop to try and uncover any frailties in the our selections stamina.

Cardigan Island is unexposed after just three runs over the larger obstacles, but in truth seems to have plenty of weight for what he has actually achieved and his stable remains in the doldrums.

Von Galen is consistent but his placed efforts have come in small field, slow run affairs, and he faces stiffer opposition here, while Gerard has appeared a shadow of his former self this season and is hard to fancy.

In summary, a great chance for French Ties to rattle up a rapid double. At any odds against this morning he is worth a maximum bet to rout some exposed rivals.
