Hunt Ball has proved a revelation in the past month and can complete a three timer in the featured handicap chase at Folkestone this afternoon.
The 6-y-o landed a wholesale gamble over this course and distance on his debut for new connections, supported down to 6-4f from a morning quote of 8-1, and followed up in facile fashion at Fontwell six days ago. The handicapper has had his say, but he won with a ton in hand last time and is a confident choice against some exposed and out of form rivals.
Main danger comes from the topweight Jan Jandura who has a consistent profile and ran well when a clear second at Ffos Las a fortnight ago. He tired in the very heavy ground there and will relish this faster surface, however he has yet to win any race in fourteen attempts and is hardly built for lumping 11-12.
Fleur de Vassy is an interesting runner now switched to a promising new trainer in Tom Symonds. He lost his way when last seen in action ten months ago, but is well handicapped as a result and any cash later on will be a big clue that he is readied for this.
The maiden Kap West has run with credit recently but has had plenty of chances in lesser races, while chasing debutantes Flowerbud and Fabreaga both will need to find huge improvement on some poor hurdling form now switched to the larger obstacles.
In summary, a gilt edged opportunity for the progressive Hunt Ball to win again under Daryl Jacob. At around Evens this morning he is well worth a hefty investment against some very ordinary opposition.
