Colin Tizzard's Rateable Value is expected to land Plumpton's featured Derek Hunnisett Obe Memorial Handicap Chase this afternoon after a 294 day absence.
The 7-y-o made gradual progress in every one of his four runs over the larger obstacles last season, and posted a career best effort when landing a decent heavy ground Fontwell handicap in February. He has been absent since, but the stable had a high profile winner on Saturday and is well capable of having one ready first time out.
Vetaran Zimbabwe returned to form under an excellent frontrunning ride over this course and distance as time out and will go close if in the same mood. He is very moody however and may not get a soft lead in this bigger field and more competitive handicap.
Perhaps topweight Near the Water may pose the biggest threat. He has shaped as though needing both starts so far this term and will relish a drop in grade. His yard has been very quiet though, and lumping 11-12 in the forecast soft ground will not be easy over a trip he is untested.
It's a Classic is sure to be thereabouts after finishing a creditable runner-up in his last two runs, while Portrait Royal is respected despite finishing well beaten here when fifth on seasonal debut.
In summary, a trappy handicap for the £4700 prize money, but a decent chance for the consistent Rateable Value to continue where he left off last term. At around 5-1 this morning he appeals as a safe each-way wager under regular rider Joe Tizzard.
