Falcon primed to swoop on seasonal debut

Falcon Island is selected to return in winning form on his seasonal debut at Chepstow this afternoon.
The 6-y-o has only been with the in-form Colin Tizzard yard for a few starts, and finally shed his maiden tag over hurdles in a warm Stratford contest in April. He is physically a very scopey type and has always appeared sure to improve when sent over the larger obstacles. He does so today in a warm handicap, but appears reasonably treated and must go close if getting into a rhythm with his jumping in this big field.
Riliyev won five handicaps last season and is versatile if the ground was to ease later on. However his yard has yet to have a winner and both stable runners have been badly in need of the run when seen in the past few days. After a seven month absence he is safely opposed from his inflated handicap rating.
Fishoutofwater returns after 164 days off and is another to switch to fences. He has McCoy in the saddle and is clearly open to improvement after winning two handicap hurdles when last seen. Those wins came from a very low rating however, and he appears only averagely treated here.
Perhaps Educated Evans may prove the main danger. He fell at the third on chasing debut last month but had shaped as though capable of much better over hurdes previously and his yard continues in excellent form.
In summary, a wide open handicap for the £8700 prize money, complicated by many of the principals not having much recent form or experience of fences. Falcon Island is by far the most interesting runner given his size and physical scope, and at around 10-1 this morning is worth an each-way investment under regular pilot Jo Tizzard.
