Jim Best's moneyspinner Mangonel can land Huntingdon's competitive Equimark Horseboxes Mares' Novices' Handicap Hurdle at 3.20 this afternoon.
The 8-y-o has been a revelation since joining these shrewd connections, landing some hefty wagers in readily winning three modest handicaps in just four starts. The mare returned from a month on the sidelines freshened up when routing rivals in the mud last time out and, despite another lump up in the weights, can lead all the way in a race without other obvious trailblazers.
Despite just £2600 in prize money, a fair sized field has assembled, and perhaps the consistent Dane Cottage may prove the main danger. She has shaped as though capable of a good deal better on a number of occasions, with perhaps a suspect temperament halting her progress. This speed course will be in her favour and she is expected to reverse latest selling form with Truckers Princess.
Flora's Pride is another that has hinted of better to come and a move in the betting later would be a big clue, although she has seemed in need of much further than this two mile trip in all recent starts.
Topweight Pampelonne ran with credit when second at Bangor last time and is entitled to be thereabouts with her yard having a superb season, while Galloping Queen seems to have been alloted a very stiff rating on two placed efforts in small fields.
In summary a great chance for the prolific Mangonel to land a fourth win in five attempts. She has teamed up well with Tom Scudamore and is sure to be hard to catch. At around 4-1 this morning a decent win investment is recommended.
