Moderator made an impressive winning start when heavily supported, and he can step up in class to land Lingfield's Follow US On Twitter @bluesq Handicap at 3.30.

All 6 runners are unproven at this trip but Moderator's pedigree suggests stamina won't be a problem for him and he looked one to keep on the right side after impressing on his debut at Kempton in early December. The Gary Moore yard is extremely shrewd and very rarely leave their cash behind, while a double over jumps on Tuesday shows the quiet period after Christmas is well and truly over.

Roger Varian made an immediate impact in his first season last term, and he saddles main danger in the shape of topweight Shabora. The Cape Cross filly won a modest 7f Wolverhampton maiden in November, taking time to hit her full stride. She then showed similar form when third on handicap bow over 1m here next time and should find this extra trip well within reach.

Come 0n Blue Chip reappears after a 107 day absence and the betting near the off will guide as to his fitness levels. He was much improved when landing a pair of nurseries at Wolverhampton up to 8.6f in the autumn, and turned in a fair effort at Newmarket last time. If readied he still may have a few pounds of improvemnet in him on the all-weather surface.

Biba Diva represents top connections but appears handicapped on them rather than any form shown in winning a poor 6f maiden at Yarmouth last September. He has not really gone on as expected in handicaps on his last two starts, with a five lengths second to Mr Red Clubs at Kempton last time suggesting he may struggle from this rating.

Rythmic built on his debut effort when readily winning a Doncaster maiden in August. There were plenty of excuses at Pontefract next time but he failed to pick up when switched to the AW in October and has since left Godolphin. The betting again will guide as to what is expected on this reappearance.

In summary, a very trappy 3-y-o handicap for the £6500 prize money, but Moderator appeared a useful prospect in winning on debut and seems leniently treated stepping up in trip and class. George Baker is a master round here and he can bring our choice through late on the wide outside in the straight. At around 5-2 this morning he is well worth a small win investment.
