Ascot stages an excellent quality card on Saturday afternoon, with the highlight being the Grosvenor Casinos Cumberland Lodge Stakes at 3.40 over 1m4f.
With the temperature expected to hit 30 degrees, the ground is sure to be on the fast side and will play into the hands of the ultra consistent 4-y-o Lost in the Moment. Godolphin's classy type has been competing with credit all year and signalled he was still in peak form when an unfortunate seventh in a red hot handicap at York last time out.
At around 7-2 this morning he offers a solid win opportunity as he seems sure to run his race and, given the doubts surrounding his market rivals, he is a confident selection.
Arctic Cosmos won the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster last season and hails from a stable in excellent heart. However the current 5-2 favourite has not been seen out this season and returns after a 385 day absence. He has evidently had some serious training problems and will have to be very close to his best to land this competitive Group 3.
Quest for Peace has appeared progressive in Ireland this Summer for Aidan 0'Brien and is respected having joined the powerful Luca Cumani yard. He steps up in class here and encounters much faster ground which is a concern. With just four career starts improvement is virtually assured but it is needed today if he is to get involved in the finish.
Veteran Nanton is respected as he always runs his race and ran a blinder in last weeks Cambridgeshire when fourth under a big weight. He appears overpriced at around 10-1 against more "hyped up" opposition.
Lost in the Moment appears very solid and his turn of foot can prove a telling weapon in the straight under regular pilot Ted Durcan.
