Forty Five set to be rewarded for consistency

Jonjo 0'Neil's consistent Forty Five is selected to land the ultra competitive Leicestershire Silver Fox Handicap Chase this afternoon.
The smooth travelling 9-y-o landed a three-timer in handicap hurdles in 2008/09, but didn't progress initially over fences when switched to the larger obstacles. However, recent placed efforts have been far more encouraging, and the fitting with cheekpieces and drop in trip here will suit.
Richie McClernon excels on these hold-up types that need softy softly tactics, and he can time his challenge to perfection up the long Leicester straight.
Main danger is the progressive Lexicon Lad. He bettered anything achieved over hurdles when beating Loch Ba on his chasing debut at Warwick (2½m) last month and showed similar form in defeat at Sandown last time. The handicapper has been lenient and he is sure to go close with his stable remaining in decent heart this Winter.
Topweight Appleaday is a reliable frontrunning veteran who deserves to get his head in front after a string of placed efforts. He was just denied at his favoured Sandown last time up and is sure to set a fast pace. However, giving weight away all round against younger rivals will not be easy on the forecast fast ground.
Thats the Deal is one for bigger-priced hunters. He shaped as though returning to form at Cheltenham last time, where his stamina ebbed up the hill, and this easier test will suit.
In summary a very open handicap for the £10,000 prize money, but an excellent chance for Forty Five to return to winning ways. He seemed sure to win last time when cruising up on the bridle, and this drop down in distance seems sure to benefit him. At around 6-1 this morning he is worth an each-way interest.
