Clive Brittain's quietly progressive Jamhara can make a winning handicap debut in this afternoon's featured contest at Lingfield.
The 3-y-o filly showed little in two runs in modest maidens as a juvenile, but proved a different proposition altogether on her reappearance at Wolverhampton when well supported dropped down to the minimum trip. She did well to overcome a wide draw and trouble in running there, and can improve further now making her handicap debut from a potentially lenient rating under the excellent Neil Callan.
Main danger for the 3500 prizemoney comes from Elegant Flight. Alan Jarvis had a welcome winner at Epsom last week and reported that his string are now over the coughing that has limited the number of runners he has sent out so far on the turf. His filly found her feet towards the backend of 2011, winning 6f and 7f handicaps at Kempton, and a 6lb rise is fair enough if she is fit and readied after 160 days on the sidelines.
Boudoir has proven race-fitness on her side and impressed when winning on seasonal debut in a fair all-weather maiden in January. She clearly failed to stay 8.6f on her recent handicap debut and is respected dropping down to 7f with her yard now in top form.
City Dazzler is interesting only as Richard Hughes is in the saddle on his return from a long ban incurred for an offence in India. He lost his way as a juvenile and only strong market support would encourage on his comeback.
Saratoga Slew has had the obligatory three qualifying runs and is another for whom a glance at the betting is recommended. On the face of it the handicapper has been very harsh, but Marco Botti is a trainer to follow and if the cash were to arrive near the off his charge is sure to be fit and readied.
In summary, a typically trappy 3-y-o handicap. Jamhara has got in with a flyweight after impressing at Wolverhampton and is open to progress after just three career starts. At around 8-1 this morning she is worth a small each way investment.
