William Haggas has an amazing record when dipping his toe into Group 1 waters and his unexposed filly Diala is selected to land a competitive renewal at 3.15.
The Iffraaj filly bumped into a subsequent Group winner when runner-up on her debut, and confirmed that promise in no uncertain style when storming clear over 7f at this course in October. The bare form of that maiden win leaves her with a great deal to find on the figures, but her astute handler has showed when winning the Derby and Oaks that he does not "waste" runs at this level and clearly holds her in the highest regard.
Aidan O'Brien's Maybe lines up a short-priced favourite and will be hard to beat with the drying ground in her favour. The Gallileo filly remained unbeaten in five career starts as a juvenile and signed off when readily winning the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh. Her stamina for a mile seems assured and she will be primed for this after 252 days on the sidelines.
Moonstone Magic has made an immediate impression in winning her first two starts in the Spring. She routed her rivals in the deep ground on debut and stepped up markedly in class to gamely land the Fred Darling at Newbury. The suspicion is that heavy conditions suit her ideally and it remains to be seen if she is as effective tackling faster terrain this afternoon.
French raider Mashoora arrives here with a steadily progressive profile and will not lack for race-fitness having won on seasonal debut at Maisons-Laffitte in early April. She is held in high regard at home but this is a big step up in grade and a low draw in three may not be ideal.
Lyric of Light is the preferred choice of Frankie Dettori and is proven over this course and distance after winning the Group 1 Fillies Mile in September. She is sure to be primed for this after 226 days but may lack the scope of her rivals, and recent reports from the gallops have not been that encouraging.
Perhaps stablemate Discourse may prove a bigger threat. She was an impressive winner of the Sweet Solera Stakes on her second start as a 2-y-o, and the fact that Dettori has deserted her should not detract from her chance.
In summary, a high quality renewal that can go to the twice-raced Diala. She went into many notebooks when winning here last Autumn and can beat some more well established stars. At around 16-1 this morning she is worth an each-way investment to swoop late on under Eddie Ahern.
