Paint the Clouds can land Cheltenham feature

Cheltenham stages its first meeting of the season this afternoon, and the prolific Paint the Clouds is a confident choice to land the featured Pertemps handicap hurdle.
Warren Greatrex reintroduces his progressive 6-y-o after a 150 day absence, with todays fast ground ideal at a course where he has an excellent record. AP McCoy is a significant jockey booking for this small yard, and his mount is on a five-timer after impressively graduating to handicap company in the Spring.
Although the assesor has increased his rating significantly after that spree, this is fairly modest contest for the £14000 prize money, and he is reasonable value at around the 11-4 mark this morning.
Main danger may turn out to be the unexposed 0ur Island who hails from the in-form Tim Vaughan yard. Although absent for seven months, fitness is never a concern from this stable, and he drops down in class after being pitched into the graded Spa Hurdle last time. 0utclassed there, he will relish this easier assignment and appears well handicapped on the promise shown when victorious at Newbury in February.
Russian War shoulders topweight and will relish returning to hurdling after failing to jump with any alacrity over the larger obstacles this season. However, he has it all to do here after winning six times last campaign, and the handicapper has him firmly in his grip.
Fade to Grey is another prolific winner, having made gradual progress in lesser Summer handicaps in the past few months. However, he faded rather tamely when driven after the last at Worcester 49 days ago, and may have been on the go long enough judged by that.
With a fast pace today assured as both Raslan and Buena Vista are confirmed frontrunners, the race can be teed up for Paint the Clouds to be produced after the last. His smooth travelling style is well suited to the undulations of the Prestbury Park circuit and the firm ground will place an emphasis on speed that should be ideal.
