Benny be Good has been a model of consistency this season and the tough stayer can defy topweight to land Huntingdon's feature Pertemps handicap hurdle.
The 9-y-o was switched to fences last time out in a valuable Doncaster handicap, and ran a blinder in a strong finishing second after being set a deal to do. He reverts to hurdles here but has an excellent record in soft ground and is sure to go close despite the welter burden of 11-12. Regular rider James Reveley continues to impress and his father's stable is in blistering form right now.
With £13,000 in prize money up for grabs a competitive field has predictably turned up, with perhaps Theologist the biggest threat. He has made giant strides this season and readily drew clear to land a deep ground Newcastle handicap last time out. The handicapper has raised him to a career high rating as a result, but this smooth traveller is sure to pose a challenge on this flat, speed course that should suit.
Rose of the Moon was an expensive failure last time out in a warm novice but is a very interesting runner now switched to handicaps off a flyweight. She has seemed a hard ride in both starts for her shrewd connections, rather going in snatches and dossing in front even in victory, but might be the sort to improve for a well run big field contest that she will get today.
Sir Kezbaah hasn't been seen out since April 2011, where he landed some hefty bets in a hot Cheltenham handicap. His small yard has been in the winners recently and he is entitled to respect, although perhaps a run or two will be needed to reach optimum fitness levels.
0scargo represents the champion trainer Paul Nicholls and is feared on handicap debut. He didn't jump very well before unseating at Cheltenham last time out on New Years Day, but had appeared a smart recruit in winning 2/3 previously and should relish the testing ground.
In summary, a wide open contest, but Benny be Good has proved so consistent this season that he might just be able to give weight and a beating to some less exposed rivals from bigger yards. At around 8-1 this morning he warrants and each-way investment to outstay all in the straight.
