racing preview

The Knoxs has joined the champion trainer Paul Nicholls and can get off to a winning start by landing the featured handicap hurdle at Exeter this afternoon.

The lightly raced 8-y-o won four of his eight starts at up to three miles (effective at much shorter) for previous trainer Howard Johnson. His jumping has looked a bit iffy over fences and this return to hurdling should be in his favour on handicap debut. Sure to be fit for this after seven months off, he seems well treated and will be hard to beat under the in-form Daryl Jacob.

Hildisvini has won his last three starts and hails from a small stable that has made a blistering start with a 1 in 3 hit rate. However, the 5-y-o has been off for 222 days and is unproven over this longer trip, which must be a concern with rain around and the freegoing nature of his run-style.

0r Noir de Samoza is a fascinating runner if the cash arrives on his seasonal debut for the shrewd Pipe yard. He was a prolific winner in France, claiming an incredible sixteen victories, but suffered an X-rated fall in the Grand National and was below form on his next two starts when last seen out.

Perhaps the progressive Camden can emerge as the biggest danger. He ended his last campaign by making all at Fontwell and is open to improvement now switched to handicaps off a lenient rating first time up this season.

In summary, a typically warm handicap for the £13000 prize money, with several unexposed types sure to attract cash if primed for their opening runs. 0ur choice was a classy chaser who can improve for his new top yard and, at around 4-1 this morning, is worthy of a decent win investment.

The Naps are 1pt up in November after yesterday's nap Dineur (3-1 into 2-1f)  ran disappointingly flat under a penalty.
