racing preview

Veteran Mylord Collonges is selected to land this afternoon's Play Casino at Victorchandler.com Handicap Chase at Hereford.

The 11-y-o was always travelling well under a patient ride from the promising Conor 0'Farrell last time out, and swept clear from the last to land a competitive handicap. The assesor has raised him in the weights for that, but he has identical conditions this afternoon and should get a strongly run race to suit his late closing style.

Main danger comes from the revitalised Margot de Grugy. He has turned over a new leaf for new trainer Victor Dartnall, and did well to finish a close second last time out after a series of uncharacteristic errors had halted his progress when going best.

Topweight Milo Milan comes here fresh from a ready Bangor victory on seasonal debut and is entitled to respect with his small yard in great form. However his stamina is unproven on ground this soft, and lumping 11-12 will be very difficult against some proven handicappers.

Don't Tell Sailor scrambled home in a bunched Uttoxeter contest last time and does seem to reserve his best for that venue, while Sherwani Wolf seems very harshly treated on a modest chase debut when second at this course and distance.

In summary, a wide open race for the £4700 prize money, but a decent chance for Mylord Collonge to follow up. He will be dropped out and produced late off an assured fast clip and represents decent each-way value at around 6-1 this morning.
