Palace Moon to defy handicapper in Lingfield highlight

racing preview

Veteran Palace Moon is selected to land Lingfield's valuable feature, the Play Da Vinci Diamonds at Bluesq.com/games Handicap at 2.45 this afternoon.

The 7-y-o returned from over four months on the sidelines to land a useful Kempton handicap recently over 7f. He showed plenty of speed there and will not be troubled by a drop down to 6f, aided by an excellent draw in stall two under regular rider Jim Crowley.

Piscean is sure to be popular having cruised home under a very confident ride at Wolverhampton last time out. He reappears here seven days on under the 7lb penalty and is sure to be hit harder by the assesor for that win. However, that success came on a very slow course where a fast pace up front rather collapsed in front of him. Also Jamie Spencer was at his nonchalent best in finessing him to the front there, and it remains to be seen whether he reproduces that run for a more inexperienced 3lb claimer (over a furlong shorter on a speed course).

Main danger for the £16000 prize money may come from the prolific course specialist Seek the Fair Land. He registered win number five on this surface on his latest start ?at the generous price of 16-1, scrambling home in a bunched finish. He seems sure to be thereabouts again but a small rise in the weights means he will need a career best effort to land this hotter contest.

Mottley Crew hails from a yard in excellent form this Winter and he deserves a change of fortune after finding just one too good on his last three starts. His best form has been on the deeper Southwell surface however, and his sole visit here saw him trail home a well beaten tenth.

Santefisio is another Northern raider with claims. He caught the eye when second last time out in a fair event and has a fair draw in stall three. Seven furlongs seems his trip though and it must be doubtful whether he can lay up against these seasoned sprinters.

In summary, a fascinating handicap featuring several in-form contenders. The veteran Palace Moon showed all his old gusto after a rest last time out and has outstanding claims from a good draw. At around 4-1 this morning he is worth a small each-way interest to lead all the way.

Yes Picansort must be a big runner if he can negociate a clear run through. He caught the eye last time out and is surely going to be winning very soon.
