racing preview

Longchamp's Sunday card is traditionally the highlight for many of the entire flat season and with the Arc promising a wide open contest, a huge crowd is certain in the Paris sunshine.

The best bet on a top class undercard is in the Prix L'abbaye at 12.45, usually one of the most fiercely competitive sprints in the calendar, and British raider Prohibit is strongly preferred from an ideal draw in stall one.

Robert Cowell's 6-y-o proved himself at the highest level this season, and his win last time over today's course and distance is the best form on offer. Crucially he has secured stall one in the fifteen runner line up, and this plum berth against the rail is often a huge advantage. Last years winner Gilt Edge Girl also started from stall one and in 2009 Total Gallery was berthed in three.

Dangers abound in these 5f contests with very little margin for error at any stage. Fellow British raider Margot Did comes here fresh from landing the Group 1 Nunthorpe and is entitled to respect, however he raced on the favoured side that day and may be flattered. Usual pilot Hayley Turner is also absent through injury, although Jamie Spencer is obviously a top class replacement.

A bigger danger may come from Robert Collet's 3-y-o Wizz kid who beat our selection at Chantilly in June on much softer ground. He was away from the action behind Margot Did last time and can reverse those placings today from a decent draw in stall four.

In summary at around 4-1 this morning Prohibit is a sporting wager to boss the rail from a perfect draw. With any number of trailblazers in this high class sprint he can stay best to land the £147,000 prize for his up and coming young trainer.
