James Fanshawe's reliable sprinter Mac's Power is selected to repeat his 2010 triumph in this afternoon's featured Racing Post Weekender Handicap.
The £17700 prize money has attracted a 22 strong field of useful handicappers and conditions seem ideal for the 5-y-o to swoop late again under the championship chasing Fallon. Several times in 2011 he has shaped as though ready to regain the winning thread and his latest rare poor run at Ayr can be safely ignored because of the very testing ground that day. At around 10-1 this morning, he represents decent each-way value, with the layers paying 1/4 the odds 1,2,3,4.
Seal Rock made an impeccable start to his career when landing his first three races (all at 6f) six months apart, and resumed progress when just touched off at Goodwood 12 days ago. He is unexposed at this level and is a live danger.
At bigger prices Parisien Pyramid is an interesting runner. He went onto many to-follow lists last time out when suffering trouble in-running and might be primed to land a similar event soon. While Bohemian Melody may be sharpened by first time blinds having shaped well when drawn on the "wrong side" of the course at Ripon last time.
In summary, a typically red-hot sprint with any number of possibilities, however Mac's Power seems sure to give his running for a yard enjoying a deal of success in the valuable prizes this season.
