racing preview

Bring on the Judge can defy an eight month absence in the featured handicap hurdle at Chepstow this afternoon.

Nigel Twiston Davies has made a fantastic start to the NH season and reintroduces the 8-y-o in a very winnable race off a flyweight on the forecast testing ground. He has shaped as though capable of much better in novice company and is sure to relish this stiff stamina test.

Sam Twiston-Davies is in the saddle, fresh from a treble at Plumpton on Monday, and is sure to give his mount a positive ride to utilise the proven stamina he showed in the Spring.

Dangers abound in the thirteen runner field, with several rivals potentially well treated if able to recapture the form they showed in the distant past.

Topweight The Gossmoor Yank has been off the course for two years but represents the powerful Nicholls/Walsh combination and is sure to be fit for his return. Carrying 11-12 in the mud is never easy however and he seems a short price purely because of connections.

Master 0verseer is respected on some excellent chasing form 7 months ago and relishes soft ground. Any cash for him later on would be a very big hint that he is primed to go close, while Rebeccas Choice will strip fitter for a promising fourth on her reappearance.

Perhaps Pavillion Blue will prove a bigger threat. He always goes close at this uniquely undulating Chepstow course and any further rain will be in his favour. The stable has also been in the winners in the past few days after a slow start.

In summary a very trappy handicap for the £5700 prize, but Bring on the Judge is worth an each-way interest at 11-2 this morning. He gets a lot of weight from the other principals and will revel in the muddy conditions later on with his yard and pilot in all-conquering form.
