Paul Webber's exciting trailblazing chaser Australia Day is a very confident choice to land this afternoons featured novice chase at Huntingdon.
The 8-y-o was a very smart hurdler last year and soon got the hang of the larger obstacles, jumping boldly when trouncing three rivals in a quite valuable event at Kempton in October. This freegoing sort is best when allowed to stride on and regular pilot Denis 0'Regan gets on very well with him. This course is ideal for one with his raw speed and he can dictate a fast pace that will soon have his three rivals off the bridle on the firm ground.
Principal danger on form is Megastar, who had a similar hurdles rating to our selection. He also relishes fast conditions, but failed to convince on chasing debut albeit in a hot contest, failing to jump well after an early blunder saw him poorly placed.
Hi Tide won over course and distance in the spring and then was much improved back hurdling, landing a Southwell handicap in July. However, he faces a stiff task against a couple of these returned to fences and novice company.
In summary a superb opportunity for Australia Day to blaze the trail and land this valuable £8700 prize. At around 4-6 this morning he rates a substancial win bet with main rival Megastar failing to fence fluently on his seasonal debut.
