Pontefract stages an excellent Monday card this afternoon, and the progressive Cravat is a confident selection to land the valuable Totepool Silver Tankard Stakes.

The selection has won his last two races in the style of a late season improver, running on powerfully to land two competitive 7f contests. This step up to a mile seems sure to suit given both breeding and run-style, and he can handle the jump upto listed class.

With £21500 prize money up for grabs a useful field has been declared. David Elsworth's reliable juvenile Salford Art is the morning favourite, and boasts solid claims on her fourth in the fillies mile last time out. That was a steady run race however, and she may of been flattered in a bunched finish. Her earlier Windsor maiden win is only modest form and the yard has had a very disappointing season overall.

A bigger danger may come from the in-form Godolphin yard's Al Saham. Although easy to bet at 12-1 on debut, this well bred type stormed home under a tender ride for an impressive victory. He could be anything but the percentage call is that was a poor Northern maiden and he was unfancied in the betting pre-race.

Lestgoroundagain is fully exposed and needs to benefit from an extra furlong here, while Stipulate was far to free early on when a well held fourth last time and needs to settle better.

In summary, Cravat appears to be a hugely improved performer on his last two starts, and his toughness can see him home in this valuable prize. At around 5-1 this morning he seems a shade over the odds, with the yard flying and pilot Silvestre de Souza closing in on the flat jockeys championship.
