hamilton vs. vettelGoing head to head in Istanbul, both the McLarens and Red Bull will fight to the dying lap to pick up points. Lewis Hamilton will spearhead the McLarens followed by Jensen Button while Red Bull world champion Vettel will need teammate Mark Webber to help in getting his first win in Turkey.

2011 Formula DHL Turkish Grand Prix (Istanbul)

The fourth race of the F1 season will see the Turkish Grand Prix be held in Istanbul from the 6th of May, with the practice, 7th of May for the Qualifying and Race day on 8th of May. The race is one of the only three circuits that runs anticlockwise and has 14 turns. Watch out for turn eight as it possess the notorious multi-apex that will give the drivers a challenge.

The Turkish circuit has 58 laps where the circuit length is 5.338 km. The Race Distance is 309.396 km which JP Montoya in 2005 set the fast lap record with 1:24.770 but it is McLaren Lewis Hamilton who won this race back in 2010.

Turning Red Bull

Ahead of Sunday’s Turkish Grand Prix, the Red Bull will have to turn their winning form on once again as they face one of their least favour circuits in the F1 season. Championship leader Sebastian Vettel doesn’t have good memories of this circuit from 2010, he ended prematurely with an accident while team mate Mark Webber took third while both McLarens took first and second, Hamilton taking the 2010 while team mate Button won the 2009, coming second in 2010. The Red Bull needs some head turnings in Turkey as Vettel fell behind Hamilton once again in the last few laps of the Shanghai GP.

The McLarens will have an updated car to help both Button and Hamilton in challenging the Red Bull. It is about the pace and being competitive, so being a three tenths of a second off the pace, it could harm their championship run if they don’t gap the bridge. In the end, a car that can match the Red Bull and also with a good strategy could well be triumphing balance to take Turkey on pole.

Improvements

It’s all about the Red Bull and McLarens these days, so what about the Ferrari? There hasn’t been much response from the Italian maestro and corrections to the Ferrari cars are underway. The Ferrari have not being able to finish on the podium yet but the hope with new improvements to their car, that could solve Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa title challenge. It was the first time Massa outdoing his team mate in China. Apart from the top boys, an old boy is slowly pacing himself to get a grip with his car. Former world champion, Michael Schumacher finished 8th in China could show some form in Turkey as the experience in him is beginning to show. However it is his car that needs to be fine tune.

News

All rumours are flying around but we should start with some good news that Polish Robert Kubica has left hospital to continue his recovery. Good Luck to him and hope to see him soon on the circuit. Some bad news, the Williams technical director has quit the team stating that the Williams aren’t going in the right direction to compete with the top. While the sale of F1 could be on the talks for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation as they could be on the verge to put in a bid. If that isn’t good news then the Bahrain race could be back on the first week of June, if that goes ahead, then you’ll see another preview of the Bahrain race. Come on!!!!

Prediction

This is going to be a good fight between the McLarens and Red Bulls, but to be more exact then it will be Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. Only 21 points separates the two gentlemen at the top of the world championship leader board and whatever happen in Turkey could be crucial for the few races to come. After watching Lewis Hamilton swing past Vettel in China, you can’t help noticing that the McLarens have the strategy with them even if they might be lacking in pace. The Red Bull have the pace but when things go wrong, you’ll end up at worse in Mark Webber’s position. This one is a take a your pick between the two cars and going with history then a McLaren could triumph while Vettel would look likely to take pole position in Istanbul.
