Another year for the two Red Bull to partner up to defend their championship win. Vettel as the Red Bull main driver and Webber as the number two, so it seems. And even at Monza, it looks likely to repeat.
Formula 1 Gran Premio Santander D’Italia 2011
The F1 calendar has just 7 dates to go until the season end and Autodromo di Monza will be one ferocious circuit for the drivers. And the Italian Grand Prix is no stranger to this kind of scene. The drivers’ championship Is very one dimensional for now and with only a few races to go, and nobody but Sebastian Vettel will be happy with the current standings. Both McLaren Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull Mark Webber will be relinquishing their outlook to pick up points at Monza from the 9th September to 11th September.
The race circuit is 5.793km with a total race distance of 306.720km. All drivers’ will need to complete 53 laps to be crowned as champion of the circuit with Ruben Barrichello holding the record for fastest lap time of 1:21.046 , a record that has stood since 2004. Fernando Alonso won this race back in 2010 in a Ferrari car.
Monza Winner
Sebastian Vettel will be a happy man if he is able to maintain consistency and win yet another grand prix, continuing his success from Spa. The German reigning champion had to briefly fight for his number one spot in the wet race but pole position was never in doubt. The set up for Italy GP will be similar but with a more comfortable lead during the race. His team mate, Mark Webber, hasn’t thrown in the towel yet but the good news of him extending his contract with Red Bull 2012 before the race, ended the day with him finishing 2nd in Spa and 92 points behind his partner. A clear message of who is number two of the Red Bull team.
The McLarens didn’t fare any better and no wiser with the Ferrari either. Spa only witnessed yet another tussle between the two competitors but also saw the dominating Alonso overcome team mate Felipe Massa in terms of the sheer power of the Ferrari. Both disappointed finishing in 4th and 8th respectively and surely out of championship title championship race. For the McLarens, Spa was to forget for Lewis Hamilton as he had to apologize to his team for the crash between him and Kamui Kobayshi. His team mate, Jensen Button, has emerged as the number one for the McLarens to challenge Vettel, if possible, after finishing 3rd in Spa after starting from the grid position of 13th.
The others
Mercedes are still lacking behind. Michael Schumacher is outperforming his teammate, Nico Rosberg and closing in the championship race on the points. It looks likely the next few races will be between the two fighting to see who is the master of the Mercedes brand. The Renault are chopping and changing as they have on mutual consent departed with Nick Heidfeld and replaced him with Bruno Senna. The Brazilian did well in his return to F1 with a 13th place at the Belgian Grand Prix and with hope that it will be a long term stay with Renault with seven races to show for.
Verdict:
This is one of the quickest and oldest circuits in F1 and the cars that will benefit from it will be Red Bull, Ferrari and McLarens, and they will finish in that order at Monza. The Red Bulls are just in a league of their own when it comes to qualifying, Vettel beat Hamilton with 0.400 seconds, that is truly amazing between Red Bull and the rest. So qualifying goes to Red Bulls. And what about the race? Downforce and DRS might sort things out, so expect a bit of action between the three, and going against the flow, Lewis Hamilton will see some power from his car.
