Vettel vs. Hamilton

McLarens have played second fiddled to Sebastian Vettel all season and the new F1 track in New Delhi might prove yet another obstacle for the McLarens to break the Red Bull dominance. Welcome to New Delhi where thousands of F1 fans await.

Airtel Grand Prix of India 2011

New to the F1 calendar, the Grand Prix will be taking its first ever F1 race on Indian soil from the 28th of October to race day, 30th October, New Delhi will be the venue and it has purposely built the Buddh International circuit and will provide the unknown factor for the F1 drivers. Unfortunately the expectation of a drivers’ championship title fight did not materialize and being the third last track before the season ends, India will serve their debut year like a test run rather than a fight for the silverware. Nevertheless, whoever wins this will write themselves in history like the circuit itself.

The race circuit is 5.137km with the race distance is to be confirmed. All drivers’ will need to complete 60 laps to be crowned as champion of the Buddh International circuit.

Winning it all

The already crowned champion just can’t stop winning and if he goes any further with the good form then he is not just proving his critics wrong but will also finish how he started this year, and that is winning. Vettel won the Korean Grand Prix after starting second on the grid and swapping position with him to take second in Yeognam was McLarens Lewis Hamilton, who actually had pole position, should find some speed in New Dehli considering that they did it in Singapore, Japan and Korea. The split with superstar Nicole Scherzinger could be a warning message that the Hamilton will concentrate on the driving from now on.

Both the McLarens will be eyeing a podium finish and they need a good grid position, which makes the qualifying important for both Hamilton and teammate Jensen Button. McLarens team principle, Martin Whitmarsh, will be testing some of the new components for next season’s new MP4-27 car. Track testing and also improvement can be done in the last three races of the season.

This leaves both Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and Red Bull Mark Webber in the chase for the second place that Jensen Button habours with 222 points compared to Alonso’s 212 and Webber’s 209. If they were to catch Button then they will have to be consistently above him in three separate occasions starting with India. Either way, both drivers will not back down but after hearing Alonso on the radio in Korea saying that he was giving up, it might just be some mind games.

News

The unknown of India might just turn out to be a showcase for the inaugural race of F1 in New Delhi. But the F1 arena has seen in the past in particular host nation racer, HRT’s Narain Karthikeyan, who took the liberty of being the first Indian to race in a F1 car. This weekend, he will be able to claim to be the first Indian to drive in front of his home fans and on Indian soil. There is some interest for the home fans so he will be one to watch in the middle or bottom half of the F1 spate.

Verdict:

Without much to spare, Vettel will be competitive and in India anything can happen. Both the McLaren drivers are not backing down and with some positive to take from the Far East races, they should be in for the hunt for the podium. In recent races, both Alonso and Webber have been on the back pedal. So without further discussion, another grid start and podium finish for Vettel, the defending and current champion.
