The final tennis game of the season where big prizes are on the offer and look no further than the Davis Cup 2011. Two of the best tennis national teams will go head to head in Seville, Spain as Spain is about to look for their fifth trophy while Argentina still looking for their first.
Davis Cup 2011
We did say that the ATP Final in London was the last bit of tennis before the year goes out but happy for some tennis fans, the Davis Cup final between Argentina and Spain will be the final act for 2011. This year’s edition of the Davis Cup is held from the 2nd of December and if needed, there will be Day 3 at the Olympic Stadium in Seville, Spain.
Quite right, the Spanish missed out last year but have won this competition four times. They lifted the trophy four times 2000, 2004, 2008 and in 2009. This year, the Spaniards are led by a world number 3, Rafael Nadal who is joined by David Ferrer, Felciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco. All of these men will be coached by Albert Costa. They know that they are heavy favorites to lift the trophy yet again on home soil, of course this is a huge benefit and knowing that their last defeat on Spanish soil was at least a decade ago, Spain does look very promising going into this final. To make matters favoring the Spaniards, they have done it before beating Argentina. In 2008, Nadal was missing from the quartet but still managed to beat Argentina in South America, so with Nadal as the main leader of the pack, this should be a breezy. Both Nadal and Ferrer were the last players to play in a major tournament before dragging their feet over to the Davis Cup final.
Argentina are underdogs as they take on Spain in Seville. They are led by Juan Martin Del Potro who is accompanied by Juan Monaco, Juan Ignacio Chela and David Nalbandian. That was a defeat to be remembered and hopefully the Argentineans would have learnt from their mistake, that is still to be seen on the clay courts. There is a possibility that Schwank will be the fifth Argentinean player who could be drafted in to play the doubles. When in writing this article, the Argentinean line up for the singles and doubles are still unknown. Revenge is something Argentina is seeking and Seville will be their hunting ground.
This game will be played on the clay court and Nadal is the best player on that court. He will be playing the singles matches along with David Ferrer. Both Del Potro and Nalbandian haven’t played since October so this isn’t the best of ideal run up to the Davis Cup Final 2011.
Verdict: Spain to win this on a clean sweep, yes they are very heavy favorites.
