The FreRoland Garrosnch Open is the second of the tennis Grand Slam tournaments and is played at Stade Rolland Garros on a clay court surface, which is traditionally a lot slower than any of the other tennis court surfaces. The event takes place over the final week of May and beginning of June incorporating two weeks of non-stop tennis action.

In the 2010 French Open Rafael Nadal reclaimed his title as the ‘King of Clay’, having relinquished his crown to Roger Federer in 2009, largely due to a knee injury that he had been carrying in the weeks and months leading up to the tournament and at the event itself. On the men’s side of the event all 2011 French Open Betting is focused around Nadal and he will once again go off as the pre-tournament odds on favourite for success.

His main challenger in the betting stakes is of course Federer but Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro, should he recover sufficiently from his wrist injury, will also enter punters thoughts as they search for the best odds on French Open 2011.

The women’s reigning champion is Francesca Schiavone who defeated Samantha Stosur in the 2010 final to claim her first Grand Slam title. Prior to that Svetlana Kuznetsova and Ana Ivanovic tasted French Open glory, but it is the Belgian Justine Henin who has dominated proceedings in recent history. Before taking an extended break from the game Henin won four out of five French Open titles between 2003 and 2007. Henin suffered her first defeat at Rolland Garros since 2004 in the round of the last 16 at the hands of Stosur last year.

Henin’s record on clay makes her the player which punters should first consider when electing to bet on French Open 2011. She will inevitably head all the betting markets on the ladies side of the French Open this year. If you are looking for an outside bet then the Williams sisters are always likely to give you a run for your money, or why not pick one of the recent champions to show that their victory in Paris was not a flash in the pan?

French Open tennis betting offers punters numerous opportunities to get involved in some tennis betting action. Bettors have an opportunity to punt on anything from the outcome of each individual match to who will serve the most aces, the correct score in a set and even whether Rafael Nadal will drop a set at any stage throughout the tournament.
