America Idol 2012

The show continues for the remaining Top 7 of the American Idol 2012. Last week, the contestant have to sing songs that most of them have never heard before. At last night’s show, Jessica Sanchez, Joshua Ledet, Colton Dixon, Elise Eestone, Hollie Cavanagh, Skylar Laine and Phillips Phillips had to sing songs from the 2010, 2011 and 2012. Guest mentor Akon was at hand to help Jimmy Iovine guide the remaining American Idol’s Lucky 7 contestants.

Last week at the American Idol 2012, Elise Testone, DeAndre Brackensick and Hollie Cavanagh were in the bottom three. Having the least vote, the time has come from DeAndre Brackensick to leave the show. But the 17-year-old did not go without a fight. Having to sing for his survival, he managed to persuade Jennifer Lopez to throw him her “save” vote as lifeline to remain in the show. But unfortunately, this was not enough. His biggest supporter, JLO, was not able to take him off the hook after her decision as overruled by  the other two American Idol season 11 judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. DeAndre Brackensick was booted out of the show.

The Opener

First to sing was Skylar Laine. Armed with guitar, the 18-year-old from Brandon, Mississippi performed Kellie Pickler’s “Didn’t You Know How Much I Love You”. Restrained from her usual energetic moves on the stage, judge Steven thought Skylar did deliver the goods.

At last night show, Joshua Ledet gave everyone a run for their money. Leaving the ballad for now, Ledet gave a powerful rendition of Bruno Mars’ “Runaway Baby”. The 20-year-old from Westlake Louisiana pump up the stage with his dynamic moves. Giving an uptempo performance, the crowd liked it and the judges  felt the same way that he was given his well deserve first standing ovation. Another Idolette who left something behind is Jessica Sanchez. Pegged to be “the one” by Akon long time ago, Jessica also left  Bibi Chez behind on last night’s show. The 16-year-old from California gave a sultry ballad as she sang “Stuttering” by Jazmine Sullivan. Akon and Iovine were not the only one impressed and blown away by Jessica during the mentoring session. She brought this with her on the stage and poured out powerful vocals. Like the mentors, the judges had the same feeling. Jessica remains to be consistent in the show.

The Rivals

Sharing the female votes from the American Idol fans, mentor Iovine nudge the rivalry between Dixon and Phillips. Floating in clouds, Colton Dixon played the piano while serenading the studio with his pretty version of “Love The Way You Lie”. Colton expressed his vocal artistry by adding a pinch of nasal tone on the chorus and delivering the entire song in a fresh and unique style. The 20-year-old devout Christian submerged the audience into ecstasy and brought the house down with his slow ballad. The judges gave raving compliments. On the other hand, Phillip Phillips dug the crowd in a fiery red background alongside his strumming rendition of “Give a Little More” by Maroon 5. The mentors were not so keen so thus the judges. The 21-year-old from Leesburg, Georgia gave an underwhelming performance.

Was In the Bottom Three

In the bottom three again last week, Hollie Cavanagh had her interpretataion of Pink’s “Perfect”. Ironically, this song is about being judged as inadequate. Singing to an acoustic guitar, it shows that Hollie is not inadequate when it comes to her vocals but what she lacks on the stage is self-confidence and this shows when she is on the stage. Closing the show was Elise Testone. Having been in the bottom three with Hollie last week, she planned to put up an antic by arming herself with drums. Having persuaded by the mentors not to do so, she instead started out at the piano to give a mellow touch. From singing Rock n’ Roll in the past series, the 28-year-old delivered some serious blues tone as she gave her rendition of Lady Gaga’s “You and I”. The judges love it and dubbed it as a her big comeback.

Elise Testone had her “Comeback” moment after surviving from last week’s show. After last night show, Hollie Cavanagh’s life line is thinning out and it will be another surprise if this petit girl from Texas will survive another week. If so, she must be so lucky indeed.
