Following their visit to their respective home towns, the remaining Top 3 American Idol contestant went back to the studio to continue the battle. Fighting for the spot on the final show, Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips and Joshua Ladet gave each other a run for their money. Setting the stage on fire, each contender performed songs by legends of the music industry which were hand-picked by the three American judges, song chosen by their AI’s resident mentor Jimmy Lovine and a song choice of their own.
Home Coming Kings
As the race to the final show has finally begun, the American judge Randy Jackson have chosen a bluesy classic by Etta Jones titled “I’d Rather Go Blind” for Joshua Ladet to showcase his dynamic screechy and R&B vocal style. The trio were not received a breathtaking rendition of the song that made them stand up on their sit to give their first standing ovation of the night. Continuing on his second song, “Imagine” by John Lennon, the 19-year-old showed his versatility in his singing talent. Finishing his third round with Iovine choice of song “No More Drama” by Mary Blige, Joshua Ladet gave all he had which was greatly appreciated by the judges.
Having the most emotional hometown visit of all the remaining three contestant, Steven Tyler choice of song for this American Idolette heart throb Phillip Phillips was by Madcom’s “Beggin”. His interpretation of the song has given him a seal of approval that he could be the next Bruce Springsteen. On the other hand, the judges did not get the right vibes when the 21-year-old performed “Desease” by Matchbox Twenty. Having knocked down by the comments, Phillip returned with a vengeance with his rendition of “We’ve Got Tonight” by Bob Seger. Nailing the song, he was given a standing ovation.
Home Coming Queen
Jennifer Lopez picked Mariah Carey’s “My All” for Jessica Sanchez to sing. Behind a very subdued performance despite holding back so much in controlling the power of her voice to fit the song, Jessica flawlessly glided in her rendition of the song. The judges synchronized in one voice that it was a perfect song for her. Meanwhile on her second song, the 16-year-old tackled Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”. She particularly impressed Steven Tyler with her version that the rock legend stated that she is worthy of praise for taking a great song and making it greater. Ending it with her 3rd song chosen by Mentor Jimmy, the stage darling soared high with her pitch-perfect rendition of Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There”. Jessica Sanchez threw some power punches on its notes while she spiced it up with tenderness throughout the song and as a result, it captured the judges and audience hearts alike.
There will be only two tickets available to the final show of the American Idol 2012. The battle between this three are fierce. Jessica Sanchez has been the bookmakers favourite to win the show from the start. Trailing behind her is Phillip Phillips who has never been in the bottom three. On the other hand, Joshua Ladet had his fair share residency in the brink of elimination in the past but has proven that he has what it takes to be the remaining three. It is a very tight contest but it will be the biggest upset of the show if either Jessica or Phillip missed the ticket to the American Idol 2012 Finale next week.
